How do you feel about this? Do we need to back off this subject and come back with cooler heads, so that reason and compassion temper our future decisions?

I think we offend people plenty. Also lol at social security. Would be nice if we could see the images from the e-mail, or have them described.

How do you feel about this? Do we need to back off this subject and come back with cooler heads, so that reason and compassion temper our future decisions? Since almost 98% of this country's families are from somewhere else, are we doing a disservice to our forefathers?
“YOU ARE WELCOME HERE, IN MY COUNTRY!
Welcome! To come through legally.”

Sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Hell, I'm third-generation myself. All four of my grandparents were born in Europe. They came here legitimately, by filling out paperwork and standing in line and waiting their turn. They didn't swim across the Atlantic Ocean in the dead of night!

I agree with most of the principles presented, but I LOATHE emails like this and delete them immediately. Don't use my email inbox as your personal soap box, regardless of the subject. It's the equivalent of pinning me to the wall at a party and spewing a diatribe at me. It's rude.

The US has immigration laws. Perhaps they should undergo reform, but until they do, they should be enforced and abided by, and those who violate them should be deported. My one wish is that children born to parents here illegaly not be automatically granted citizenship.

It's bad enough people keep forwarding them to me, I don't need to see them posted on fucking message boards I frequent as well.

Regarding the email itself, I don't care one way or another on it.

On the subject, I have a lot to say, but I can't really talk about it in Misc.

It's obviously just a boring old chain letter propogation scam to clog up people's inboxes for no reason - so who gives a fuck either way?

Standard talking points, nothing new. Standard poorly hidden bigotry.
"6.Learn the LANGUAGE like immigrants have in the past!!!"
 First generation immigrants have always struggled with language. It's nothing new. Second generation almost universally speak fluent English and third can often speak nothing else. And the response from the "natives" is nothing new either. Usually they moan about it in appalling English.

That is English Defence League 101 with the country name changed.

I never pass on forwarded emails. Shitty ones like this just make me seethe and want to bash in the skull of whomever wrote it.

Welcome! To come through legally:

It is really quite simple, and sums it up for me. At the heart, I have no problem with people migrating here, in fact I welcome them to the US, to have opportunities their home country may not. However, I do not welcome them coming over here illegally.

My step-brother moved to New Zealand two years ago, and you know what, he did it legally, and got a job.

This type of e-mail, along with other e-mails or posts where someone uses the phrase, "Sad day for America" are annoying, lame, and pathetic.

Yeah, the email is fine to that point. Its real intent becomes clear in the lines that follow.

I live in England (moved here legally with my Dutch EC passport), and my colleague who's a benefits specialist told me that the largest percentage of illegal immigrants in the UK consists of white Canadians, Americans, Australians and South Africans. They're white and speak English, so no one's bothered with their illegal status. :vulcan:

those damn canadians, their quietly taking over the world, seizing power at an alarming rate, hell they stole a complete language from the french. NWO, eh...

separately,
