I'm not going....anyone else?

It's no secret around these parts regarding my stance on this, er, film. I've basically heard nothing encouraging up to this point to convince me to pay to see this...movie. It would take a freaking miracle to convince me otherwise.

That said is there anyone else out there inclined to not seeing this movie unless hell freezes over, er, a miracle springs forth?

And BTW this isn't an effort to convince anyone not to see it, but merely a sounding board for those already inclined against it without being denounced as unfairly biased.

Re: I'm not going....

Frankly, I'm not a friend of this whole Star-Trek-reboot-scheme. The fanboy in me believes that it makes all previous Trek, of which I've been a fan since I was a little kid, obsolete.
But it's way too early to declare any intention of not seeing the film. It might be great, regardless of its implications. I'm an old school Simpsons fan and gave up watching the newer seasons but still went to see the film on the opening weekend. And I enjoyed it.
So, I'll go see the Trek film, too.

Re: I'm not going....

My judgement is, at present, reserved. If reviewers I like give this film thumbs up, I'll go see. If not, then... well, probably will still go, to be honest.

But I won't buy the DVD.

Re: I'm not going....

Why does the Shatner SNL "Get A Life" sketch pop into my head right now?

Re: I'm not going....

My first gut reaction was exactly the same as yours, but, after photoshopping the heads of the new actors on the body's of the old actors, I started thinking that this movie might have a chance of appealing us hardcore TOS-fans.
At this point, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I'll make my judgement after I've seen it; remakes have a bad reputation, but not all remakes are crap. Some are even better than the original (The Day of the Triffids, The Bourne Identity), but I agree you don't see that often.
Bottom line : wait, see, and judge.

Re: I'm not going....

I'd be somewhat more receptive if they'd just be candid and say it's a restart.

Re: I'm not going....

I'll be there on opening day. The DVD will most likely find its way into my collection.

Everything that has come from the writers lead me to believe that they get what Trek should be about. Based on their comments alone, I'm expecting a movie to rival the best that Trek had to offer, which was 'Wrath of Khan,' of course. :D

Well, that much should be obvious by now, and didn't they kind of say as much, even though it was phrased in the most diplomatic way possible?

I'm not convinced it's gonna be a restart, but more like a TOS story which could have been played by the original actors in the sixties. Instead, it's gonna be played by new actors.
To be honest : the new actors are the least of my concerns. What I am worried about is this : the ship (exterior and interior) and the uniforms. If they change that too drastically, they might ruin the rest of the movie.

Re: I'm not going....

Any new star trek film I wouldn't miss. This whole debate on quality, etc...you know in my book who cares? You only live once and the price of admission if not on this film will be wasted on something else.

Re: I'm not going....

I agree with Cogley. If we weren't all going to see the damn thing, why would we be on message boards talking about rumors a year before the film is ever released?

He's got a point. Even those who are sure they will hate the film will need to see it so they have ammunition to deride it.

I'll take your seat, then. ;) I even went to see Nemesis, knowing full well it was total garbage, because it was worth ten bucks for the fun of bitching about it here.

this...movie.
Regardless of what you think of this project, I don't see why you should have such a problem acknowledging that it will indeed be a motion picture (i.e. "film", or "movie".)

As for myself, I'm looking forward to it until I have reason not to. I've only seen the work of one of the announced actors, I haven't seen any of the production designs, I have no idea what the story is, and I don't believe I've seen any of the work of the director. I'd like to remain optimistic about this movie as long as I can.

Since we're all well aware of the reasons why some people will not go to check out this film, does that mean they'll finally stop kvetching about it and post in a forum where people actually give two shits about what they "think?"

Your childhood is gonna be raped, so get a lawyer or something. Maybe you'll land yourself a guest spot on the next Maury Povich show, "Trek Fans who can't deal with new ideas and the moms that still cut their meat for them."

This film is coming out in 2008. I am going to see it because I am psyched to see a new Trek film. Maybe I'll even enjoy it. The rest of you who seem unwilling, unable to enjoy Trek beyond this really narrow view of fandom may actually miss out on something or you may be right.. Constantly posting negative crap on the internet will never endear me to appreciate or respect your point of view.

I am well aware that my opinion may or may not matter to some of you, but allow me to remind you of the same from my end. This film doesn't need your approval to be made. They're doing it without you. Deal.

I'm going to see it. What's the worst that could happen? I might end up watching 2 hours of a crappy movie. Oh well, no point in being anal-retentive and not giving it a try.

I'm absolutely going to go see it... I'm really quite excited about the prospect. And if after two hours I determine that it was crap, I will walk out of the theater and say "that was crap" and then proceed to spread my opinion far and wide.

But I am eager to see it and hope I'll love it and it'll do well.

Oh, I'm definitely not going.

I'm not going to see it on opening day, and I expect to not see it four or five times in first-run release.

I'll not be buying the DVD, nor will I be double-dipping for the SE DVD six months later. And I certainly won't be discussing the movie online, either now or after its release.
