im new to star trek help

TNG was the show that made me a Trekker, and I never watched it in the correct order until I bought the DVD's a few years ago. It never bothered me because they are all pretty much stand-alone episodes.

DS9, however, I would strongly recommend buying on DVD and watching from the beginning. That's what I did anyway, and now It's my fav trek.

thanks everyone.
im more confused but thanks.lol
i have written down that list and will try and follow it best i can

The DS9 episode "Emissary" premeired after the TNG sixth season episode "Chain of Command." Originally Chain of Command was going to be a crossover episode but the timing wasn't worked out quite right. Overall there aren't too many crossover episodes.

Another thing I would do different is place Star Trek: First Contact somewhere before In Purgatory's Shadow, because Capt. Sisko mentions the Borg attack of FC in that episode. Stardates don't add up, but I think that reference takes precedence.

Also the Uniform change was made in DS9 to coincide with the new uniforms on First Contact. So First Contact should go before the first DS9 episode with the uniform change. (apologize for the double post)

Indeed, I watch FC just before Rapture.

Greetings Samantha31,

From reading all the posts you really don't need anymore help :)
I just wanted to welcome you the the Trek BBS.. it's a really cool site, and the other members are very helpful. In a way you are lucky because you get to discover Trek for the first time, most of us have been "trekkies" for a while...

Resistance is Futile

When I watch TOS, I find it easier and cheaper to just hook my laptop up to the tv. Especially since CBS.com shrunk the picture with all that black space, seemingly just so they could put "CBS" on the side. As if I didn't know what website I was watching it from.... but yeah, two cables are all you need to do that. The picture quality is good still when it is blow up on a tv screen, but I couldn't watch it just on my monitor (too small). My other complaints are the commercials... they often come earlier than they should (scene doesn't fade out completely and then resumes fading after commercial) and they can sometimes be at least 3x as loud as the show, so it's like: "He's dead, Jim." *ominous music starts* "IT'S TRUCK MONTH AT YOUR LOCAL FORD DEALER!!!!"....*ominous music finishes, fade out, start next scene*

but hey, at least there are only like 4 commercials per episode. It's the cheapest route if you ask me, as they're free at cbs.com

Denial doesn't help. You need to accept, get over it, and move on with your life.

Or better yet, read The Good That Men Do, realize that it fits perfectly with the episode as-aired and yet makes much more sense, and go with that.

hi again.im up at season 6 on TNG and season 3 voyager as i have these two setson dvd,i noticed a crossover with voyager season 3 episode false profits with voy season 3 episode the price..
when the ferangi go threw the wormhole in tng and get trapped in delta quadrant..then voyager come across them pretending to be gods..

thats the first crossover ive found although theres a lot of refrences to things the enterprise has done.
i like how when in voyager they mention certain things i know the episode there talking about.like paris going to warp 10 they say the enterprise supposedly done it already etc.
im going to finish TNG.then finish voyager..then start on ds9 purely as im now renting the discs so i dont want to be renting 3 different ones.

its also strange when tom paris turns up in tng at starfleet as a cadet under the name nic locarno..

the more i watch i see characters in all diferent rolls like neelix as a ferangi in tng..even with the make up i reckognised his voice..

star trek rocks

I just recently decided to simply start at the start.

oh hey this is what I'm doing

TOS is on netflix-on-demand (or whatever it's called); also I think I saw full episodes available on IMDb?

Re: im new to star trek help..ds9 let down

well we are on season 7 of TNG.and season 4 of voyager and we LOVE them.the tos is great to but ds9 we just cant get into.
i hope no one gets offended as i know loads of you guys like it.
but sisko seems rude and not the best actor.the doctors voice is so annoying.obrien is in it..
we have watched random episodes for a while and didnt really like it due to the doctor.but we tried it from season 1 and only watched emmisary and were bored.
all programs have annoying characters to a degree.and its personal opinion.

voyager kes is annoying to us.lol
TNG..obrien

but we cant seem to take to 3 or 4 of the main charachters in ds9.

has anyone else felt this way about it at first and maybe then got to like it?
will it eventually gripus like the other 3?

whats your opinion guys?

DS9 may take awhile to get into but once the Dominion War starts up it really gets exciting. For me I skipped the first two seasons of DS9 the first time I watched it (because I wanted to get to the Dominion stuff I kept hearing about) and started with Season 3. Then I went back and watched the first two seasons after. Also if you like Worf from TNG he becomes one of the main characters from season 4 onwards so that may be another reason to watch.

I really wanted to love DS9, but it wasn't till "Blood Oath" (mid Season 2), where Jadzia's Dax symbiont is reunited with three Klingon captains from TOS that I really started to enjoy the series.

It is best to watch Trek in production order (look at www.memory-alpha.org for more help):

Star Trek: TNG season 7 simultaneously with Star Trek: Deep Space Nine season 1 -- television series

This isn't completely right. You need to start watching season 1 of DS9 after TNG's season 6 episode Chain of Command. Seasons 7 of TNG and 2 of DS9 should be watched simultaneously because of the Maquis storyline (TNG's Journey's End, then DS9's The Maquis and then TNG's Preemtive Strike.)

If you are interesting in watching Trek in a chronological way, I refer to this excellent list:

http://www.johnstonsarchive.net/startrek/st-episodes-1.html

Yes, seeing "Preemptive Strike" without seeing "The Maquis" first is probably the only con when it comes to watching DS9 only after being done with TNG...
