im new to star trek help

Greetings Samantha31,

From reading all the posts you really don't need anymore help :)
I just wanted to welcome you the the Trek BBS.. it's a really cool site, and the other members are very helpful. In a way you are lucky because you get to discover Trek for the first time, most of us have been "trekkies" for a while...

Resistance is Futile

hi Samantha31
I agree. Welcome and I also envy new Star Trek viewers. although as someone stated episodes can generally be watched in any order I recommend watching DS9 in order from start to finish. - i'm sure you said you were in the UK if so amazon.co.uk did them cheapest but if you just want to rent see if your local blockbuster can get hold of them. enjoy!

DS9 may take awhile to get into but once the Dominion War starts up it really gets exciting. For me I skipped the first two seasons of DS9 the first time I watched it (because I wanted to get to the Dominion stuff I kept hearing about) and started with Season 3. Then I went back and watched the first two seasons after. Also if you like Worf from TNG he becomes one of the main characters from season 4 onwards so that may be another reason to watch.

I totally agree! If the first two seasons of DS9 are weighing you down, skip 'em. There's nothing in those first two seasons that you can't pick-up on later. The show becomes much more cohesive. The chemistry improves. And then, Worf and The War kicks it off right. I highly suggest you get into Season Three or Four right now.:techman:

Re: im new to star trek help..ds9 let down

but ds9 we just cant get into....
has anyone else felt this way about it at first and maybe then got to like it?
will it eventually gripus like the other 3?

DS9 is definitely a different beast, but totally worth the ride once you get into it. The first two seasons are mostly character introduction and dropped story lines. Try starting from the Season 2 Finale "The Jem'Hadar" and go from there. A lot of the show is heavily story-arced starting in Season 3, so watching them in order on DVD is the best way (so as to not forget important details and stay involved in the story overall). The series is definitely the most action-packed of all the others, but more "doom and gloom, foreboding" compared to other "bright, sunny, exploration and adventure" incarnations of Trek. In all, I'd say give it a shot, because it is an integral part of the Trek universe and soon you will be out of new Trek to wach, anyway! :)

hi again.im up at season 6 on TNG and season 3 voyager as i have these two setson dvd,i noticed a crossover with voyager season 3 episode false profits with voy season 3 episode the price..
when the ferangi go threw the wormhole in tng and get trapped in delta quadrant..then voyager come across them pretending to be gods..

thats the first crossover ive found although theres a lot of refrences to things the enterprise has done.

Well, Will Riker appeared on Voyager in the VOY Season 2 episode "Death Wish," a very good episode.

its also strange when tom paris turns up in tng at starfleet as a cadet under the name nic locarno..

From MA:
Locarno was the inspiration for Star Trek: Voyager's Tom Paris. When the writers were trying to cast for the part, they couldn't find anyone that seemed to match Robert Duncan McNeill's persona, so they eventually just asked him to read for the role, and he got the part. Reasons for not simply bringing back the Locarno character have varied. It may have been because they would have had to pay royalties to the writers of "The First Duty" every episode. In interviews the producers of Voyager have given a more convincing reason. They felt Locarno's actions in that episode made him irredeemable, making redemption unbelievable for audiences.
A photo of McNeill as Locarno was later used as a photo of young Tom Paris on Admiral Owen Paris' desk in the episode "Pathfinder".
