I'm never going to get around to SCE...(spoilers for the whole series)

Since I'm never going to get around to reading SCE, and it doesn't particularly interest me anyway (except for the crossovers with the other series), I was hoping some people could give a semi-short description of each story and spoil the whole series for me. If any one would be interested in doing this I'd love to read something like under a half dozen paragraphs for each story.

Or if there is anywhere on the net that already has something like this, that would be great too. I'm wanting something more specific than what is on Memory-Beta. And something with more than just the blurbs, I want the whole story, spoilers and all.

Eventually I'd like to do this will Stargazer and a few other books too.

Thanks so much to anyone who helps. I'll keep you posted on my thoughts if anyone cares.

If it doesn't interest you anyhow, why do you care?

Anyhow, no such resource exists, aside from the copy that accompanied each eBook, which obviously doesn't spoil much. I can't imagine a circumstance under which someone would go to the trouble of compiling such a list for someone who doesn't care enough about the series to actually read it.

I'm genuinely curious as to why you want this information, since you just said you aren't interested.....

Your post is a bit self-contradictory. Essentially, you're saying that you're not really interested at all in this series, yet you want to know what happens in each story and have somebody write the Cliffs Notes for you. The stories aren't very long (novellas rather than novels), so I'd recommend trying to read some of them yourself and then evaluating whether finishing the series is worth it to you or not. As to the tie-ins with other series, any book should give enough background to explain personal connections, past events, etc. The authors continually state in this forum that they write in such a manner that each work can stand on its own, so having detailed knowledge of prior works isn't necessary.

Re: I'm never going to get around to SCE...(spoilers for the whole ser

Yeah, they're pretty easy to follow. I had went over a year between reading the first two paperback collections, and the first two stories in the third and I had no problem following them whatsoever. That reminds me I still need to read the other two stories in the third book.

You know, I already had a post composed saying something similar shortly after he posted his plea, only much more agressive. But I feel like I already have a way to negative image on this board anyway, so I calmed down and hoped someone would chime in and say what I want to say, only in a more polite way. Thank you for doing that. :)

On a similar note, I'm interested in having someone chew my food for me and tell me how it tastes, before spitting it into an I.V. bag. Anyone? Anyone?

You need to go to Ferenginar for that sort of service!

Yeah, I'm tired of bangin' my wife every week.
Somebody want to do it for me, and describe it?

 Never-freaking mind. Since everybody wants to be so damned rude, I guess just forget it. For the record, I am interested in the series, but I know I'll never take the time out of my already busy reading schedual to get around to reading them.

Re: I'm never going to get around to SCE...(spoilers for the whole ser

Never-freaking mind. Since everybody wants to be so damned rude, I guess just forget it.

A lot of the SCE writers hang out here. You're basically saying that you don't want to read their work because it's not important enough, and you're not going to pay to read it, but you want someone to tell you what happens anyway. Perhaps some people think your post has a certain lack of awareness or sensitivity and that a more overt rudeness in response is not entirely unwarranted.

Re: I'm never going to get around to SCE...(spoilers for the whole ser

Since everybody wants to be so damned rude

On the contrary, it could perceived that asking for detailed plots (for free) but being unwilling to buy or read the authors' material (esp. on a bbs where many of the SCE/CoE writers hang out) is rude. If you're too busy to keep pace with the ST fiction, why are you worried what happens in it?

The stories aren't very long. It would take almost as much time for someone to synopsise them for you as it would for you to actually read them. If too many fans chose to read detailed synopses of ST novels, instead of supporting the fiction lines, there wouldn't be enough people buying copies.

Re: I'm never going to get around to SCE...(spoilers for the whole ser

I do apologize for my own rudeness, but I will cop to being hypersensitive on the subject of my baby -- er, I mean SCE. :D

I've also apologized to Ryan in a PM.

Really? :wtf:

I wonder why, since your post was the least rude of all. Actually I can't find any rudeness in it at all, only some very good points brought forward in a very civil manner, hence my comment above.

Re: I'm never going to get around to SCE...(spoilers for the whole ser

Here's my synopsis for the entire series:

Cool, multidimensional characters have strange adventures and also live their regular lives on the da Vinci. One major Mack attack occurs about a third of the way into the series.

Its impact on other Trek stories is minimal. There are crossovers, but the CoE characters don't come off any differently than other guest stars in the other books. Read the stories because they're good, not because they have some connections with other books.

Re: I'm never going to get around to SCE...(spoilers for the whole ser

I have to say-I read Ryan's post and sat back for a moment. I am truly puzzled by the thought patterns that motivated him to write that. If I understood the original post he wanted a sound bite version of the SCE stories written up just for him? I have read every SCE story/book I could get my hands on. I think they are some of the best ST fiction out there and I respect the authors that wrote the stuff immensely. I would be happy to write up a 6 paragraph synopsis (including all of the detailed points) of each story/book for him. However, since that work is all pro output I would feel compelled to charge for such a thing-say $1 a word and I'll split the money 30-70 with the original author(that's 30c for me per word. Basically just a typing fee). Ryan, if you are willing to pay then, hey, no problem. It could get a little expensive but since you can't bestir yourself to buy the authors' books it seems only fair. You see, just like cabinets are the fruit of a carpenter's labors those books are the product of these fine authors, their means of paying for food and drink, shelter and luxuries. So if you want the carpenters to build you some cabinet doors(to continue the analogy) you need to pay for them. And since its specialty work you are requesting you will have to pay top dollar. I hope you understand, but since I can not comprehend the mindset that prodded you to make the original posting my confidence in your understanding is less than solid.

KRAD-um, no offense, but you apologized to him? I'm very sorry about your recent bout with insanity and I hope you recover soon.

Uhm... WHAT?

This had me rolling!

But, Ryan, surely you see the folly of your question -- snide remarks aside. Your schedule really has nothing to do with it. If you have any time at all to read anything at all, then if you do have interest in a book or series then you will find some time (even if it takes you a very long time to get through it all) to read it. The books aren't going anywhere and there is no reason why you need to read all 50+ of them by the end of the year or in some really short time frame.

Re: I'm never going to get around to SCE...(spoilers for the whole ser

I would like to send my best wishes for KRAD's mental recovery as well, but again, my time is too fucking precious. Would someone else say something for me? Thanks. ;)

On behalf of Mr. Leisner allow me to offer best wishes to KRAD on a speedy recovery.;)
