I'm liking John Boyega in the Trailers

One of the things that was disappointing about the prequels was the lack of interesting characters. Basically everyone was too serious. Ewan McGregor, in TPM, actually was the closest to an OT character. Most of this problem seems to have been the actors seeming bored by the story and their place in it (which could very easily have been because of the direction).

The OT had a nice balance of personalities that caught our attention and made us want to root for them.

Finn, in the few clips we've seen so far, seems to capture the spirit of Star Wars. We see his fear, his sense of loss, and basically the actor's enthusiasm for the part.

I know we've only had a very few scenes with the actor so far and his scenes are chosen to rouse our interest, but I've already grown to like his character. Great job for the PR department, but I certainly hope that we see the pay off with a new, truly memorable, Star Wars character.

If only the prequels had had a character motivated by fear and a sense of loss, then they might have been really engaging!

That person was Anakin Skywalker, as an adult in Attack Of The Clones and Revenge Of The Sith, or were you asleep in the theater?

Finn (and the rest of the cast) have all displayed more emotion in the 6-odd minutes of footage thus far than the entire prequel cast during the combined 9-odd hours of runtime.

I think he's going to be my new favourite though. His response to Han's "you sure you're ready for this?" question was priceless.

Yeah - I don't think you understood his point!

Yeah Finn has definitely been looking pretty badass with that lightsaber, taking on both Kylo Ren and that Riot Control Stormtrooper.

And the idea of one of the heroes of the new trilogy starting out as a disillusioned Stormtrooper himself is a really cool and compelling idea as well (which I'm guessing was probably not part of Lucas's original outline, or something he would have even considered).
