I'm goin' to Vegas, baby!

Hubby and I are heading to Vegas this weekend!

Driving to Primm (about 6 hours), check out the outlet and stay the night. Saturday nights are expensive, so staying there and shopping and resting is a good start. Then a short drive into town on Sunday.

Staying at Treasure Island, with tickets to Mystere, "O," AND Lion King! Hubby said we haven't been anywhere for fun in a long time--every trip has had a serious aspect to it for the last few years--that we're gonna enjoy this one. And I got the tickets either included or on sale. Well, as far as tickets go.

And gift cards for some of the food--like Smith & Wollensky's, Patina group, and Mon Ami Gabi/Eiffel Tower.

We're not gamblers; we figure about $10 for the trip. Our time will be spent looking around--I want to see the guys from "Pawn Stars," Hubby wants to see the Shelby Racing place, there's a rare book store I was told about. We used to pickup $1 chips from the casinos years ago--poor man's souvenirs. And there's new casinos to look at. And of course all the window shopping!

Leave Saturday, come back Thursday.

Uh...Passover is in there somewhere, but I'm (obviously) not very observant.

Ahh, Vegas. If you're up for a day trip, heading out to Red Rock Canyon is a beautiful picture opportunity. And you have got to check out the Imperial Palace's car collection! Oh and i've eaten at Mon Ami Gabi. It was where my friend and i had breakfast every morning while there. Excellent place. There's a great bar in Caesar's Palace. Trevi, it's called. Great place to people watch. My friend and i held court there. ;)

Have a great time.

Have a great time, propita. :bolian:

I've been to Vegas once, in 1991. I was just there overnight, as I was only passing through. I lost at the tables and won at the slots and came out about ten bucks ahead. The place was hot-- over a hundred degrees at midnight, and I found it pretty psychedelic by night and kind of bleak by day. And I didn't see Dan Tanna anywhere.

I'm definitely not a gambler, but I do remember the food was very good. That's my best memory of Vegas - the food.

And of course the shows as well (I really enjoyed the Siegfried & Roy show, and I also remember standing in line for hours to see Sam Kinison).

I'm sure Vegas is ten times the size it was when I was there (1991). :D

Don't tell my girlfriend, she would be so jealous. Especially because of the fact that her next trip is to Washington D.C. to hear lectures about the new airport scanners for a whole week.

Awesome, propita! I love Vegas! Sounds like you have all the bases covered and you've been there before, so I'm just going to say, enjoy the shows, enjoy the time together, and have fun! :)

As someone who's lived there, I have a few suggestions.

Splurge on the buffet at the Palms (It's a block or two west of I-15 on Tropicana). It's expensive, but it's one of the best buffets in the city.

Avoid eating at the Flamingo and Sahara (unless you're at the NASCAR themed restaurant in the Sahara). Food at these two for some reason is not up to the par of the others.

New York New York will simply take your breath away. So will a gondola ride at the Venetian.

For a nice, quiet, romantic drink, nothing in the city beats The Peppermill on the north end of the strip.

I don't really understand the appeal of Vegas. On TV it's depicted as loud, flashy, and hot. In short, it sounds obnoxious.

I've been there a few times and don't enjoy it, either. I just don't see why gambling is fun. But sometimes you can catch a good show here and there. And I did drive by and see The Pawn Shop as seen on TV. :guffaw:

Oh, we've been to Vegas, just not in years.

Our favorite buffet is at the Bellagio. We were once "stuck" at Bellagio for a few hours when a flashflood on the west side came pouring down the Strip, flowing into Lake Bellagio. Cars stuck in water and abandoned in the street. Very strange.

Almost no gambling--we'd rather spend the money on food or entertainment. So our time besides that will be spent walking and looking. There's really not a great chance to do that in Fresno (great hiking, yes, but we're not into that) and that's what we found we enjoyed doing while Hubby was in school and money was tight.

I've seen the inside of the airport and the rental car counter, that's about it. Then we high tailed it out of town. Had no interest in Vegas, but it was a great place to fly into to see the Desert Southwest.

Zion and Death Valley Netional Parks are 3 hours away from LV, albeit in opposite directions. I saw Death Valley.

I also made a point to see the Hoover Dam, which is 90 miles away. Being a civil engineer, it was mandatory.

Please let me know if I can assist you with reservations at The Eiffel Tower Restauarant. Also please feel free to drop in just to take in the sights. It is a spectacular room and we are very proud to show it off.

We serve both lunch and dinner.

Best regards,

Lyle

Are you sure you saw the right dam? The Hoover Dam is just a bit over 30 miles away from Las Vegas (just confirmed it on Google Maps too in the likely event I'm senile). :p

Vegas is great fun in small spurts, like a long weekend. Don't stay too long because it DOES get old quickly, and this is coming from someone who loves the place and visits at least once a year.

All true, I think. But: a couple weeks ago it was like 50 during the day. :)
You ought to go there, though - at least once if only to witness this surreal and hyper-massive train-wreck of a most famous city in the world. And you could take a heli and have some cheap sparkling wine at the bottom of the Grand Canyon.-
