Im a real fashion plate (Uniform Designs)

Hello all,

So I had to dig out my old Windows 98 computer when XP wouldnt stop crashing, burried in my hard drive among various other things was my old uniform templates.

I took one particular design I was fond of and extended it into a full line.

For the upcoming spring collection we have Enlisted Personel duty uniforms.

Next up we have the Officers Uniform collection. Bringing back a slightly retro yet modern take on the old TWOK design.

And finally we round out our collection with 2 variations of an Admirals Uniform featuring a UFP seal belt buckle.

Suggestions, ideas for other designs or your own uniform concepts are welcome.

Good guys wear black, eh?

I like the Federation logo being used as a belt buckle, BTW.

Well in all honesty Wingsley im a huge fan of the color black. Pretty much any other color can go very nicely with it.

The Romulans wouldnt take us very seriously if we looked like this..

Definiely stick with black.

Reminds me of Ernie from Sesame Street for some reason. Or maybe those cartoons on the Electric Company.

Guess I must be showing my age...

The set at the top looks cool to me. But why not go with comm badges? And what about the split at bottom-front of each pantleg? And maybe match the usual Starfleet colors for the red, blue, and gold. Um, I wonder what they look like from behind.

Also, I would imagine that Starfleet people like having those colors on the shoulders, just to make it easy to pick people out by area of responsibilty when there's a situation afoot.

I half agee with LCARS24. The "rib colors" seem superfluous, but the colored breast mini-stripe seems practical. Do these uniforms use TNG-style rank pips on the collar, or somewhere else, or do they use some other insignia? What would a senior NCO's or warrant officers' version look like?

Here's a challenging question for you: have you ever done a "tropical" version, with shorts, short-sleeves and a more open neck? It would be neat to see this style in khakis or light greys.

It would also be interesting to see an arctic field uniform, or a combat/expedition fatigue.

Well the color ribbed section along each side is as useful as the gray shoulder/chest section of the FC uniforms.

If we wanted fuction only than TOS style uniforms would still be in service today.

I was holding off on the rank insigna (pips and so forth until I can do a little more research into the actual ranks.

What levels of the admiralty does starfleet have? Rear, fleet etc.

Ill start working on the arctic and combat uniforms next but ill be up front... im staying away from the Starfleet tropical attire.

Ugh... WAY, WAY, WAY, too much black... this is Star Trek, not the 3rd Reich... ours is a bright universe... TOS was colorful, TNG was colorful, VOY at least had some semblance of color, and then DS9 killed it dead. If TOS went for color, I say honor the legacy of the original... give our heroes more color, and less black. Just my 2 cents.

Ah but we arent trying to promote technicolor anymore.

However a couple of the uniforms ive been working on do have a tad more color.

First one is 3 variations of an Admiral full dress uniform.

And second we have a Stafleet Marine style featuring a "Class-A officers uniform" and an Officers full dress uniform.

LCARS24 - I added the pant leg slits, also those are meant to be com badges but the graininess od MS Paint makes a more detailed badge impossible to make out at that size.
Winglsey - Also working on the Marine combat gear but I wouldnt expect too much color on them.

TOS was colorful... because CBS ordered it. Looks at The Cage. Battle ship gray and black bridge. Gold, Beige, and blue uniforms. Much more like the modern navy of the time...

I think you meant NBC.

I really like the new blue/white and white/blue Admiral's uniforms.

As far as the black goes: I understood the downplaying and minimizing of color in DS9 uniforms to be a combination of Bermania (Berman hated the "overuse of color" in TOS) and the post-Vietnam logic of minimizing visible identifying features such as rank or division as a method of risk avoidance (snipers) in the field.

Both generations of DS9's uniforms were flawed, but the one thing I liked about the first round of black ones: they were nothing like the ultra-tights from TNG's first year or the two-piece disasters from the remaineder of TNG.

I also like your "Starfleet Marine" uniform concept. I think a neat touch would be to reverse the uniform, though. Put the commbadge on the opposite side.

As far as "Marines" are concerned: I've toyed with the concept for years. I decided that Starfleet would make allowance for special non-Starbase ground troops. I like to call them StarFIREs (Starfleet Itinerant Regiments and Expeditions). Sounds much less militaristic, eh? These troops would support and secure colonists and non-naval bases on planets in "deep space" territory.

The only things I don't like about the black naval uniforms at the top of this thread are (1: the colored ribbing, and (2: they look a little on the tight side. (See my comments about DS9.)

CBS, NBC, ABC... does it really make a difference. Network Execs screw everything up... just like studio execs.

The "suits" should not have any roll in the creative process outside of signing the checks and letting the film makers make their art.

Interesting color scheme, but the overall shape of the uniforms looks at little too much like the funny two-piece affairs from TNG's later years. I think it's funny because Cinefantastique magazine did an article on the then-"new" uniforms and showed pictures of the actors pulling down and straightening the shirts on them.

Scatter's designs are the best designs on this thread.

The others are too convoluted and complex.

Sleek simplicity is best.
