I'll Hate Myself For This, But... It Needs to Be Proposed/Asked

Frontier

Vice Admiral
Admiral
I'm going to hate myself for this, but...

Why not take advantage of the new Trek being "cool" and do a series starring Bruce Greenwood as Admiral Pike, commandant of Starfleet Academy, featuring a bunch of hot young cadets (some familiar, some not) with Abrams producing?

If not on CBS itself, then CW, which is the closest thing to a 'youth' channel, and would require much less in ratings to be a success.

Cadet Janice Rand, Doctor M'Benga, Mister Kyle, maybe a young Lieutenant 'Number One' (who would finally get a name) in the Saavik/leader of the group position, Will Decker, Illia, finally bring life to the Xon character who was to replace Spock in Phase 2.

I want to smack myself for even saying all of this out loud, but... it seems like such an idea that the suits would go for, you know? A way to have a Trek series on air and tied in with the movies, but without the Enterprise or trying to get the actors from the films.

It also has the advantage of being a network fit as opposed to trying to shoehorn Trek on CBS. CW also brings in WB which has a production deal with Abrams.

The real question is could you attract Star Trek fans to a series about college students sleeping around with each other? Or could you create a series that wouldn't involve an emergency every week that somehow the cadets are the only ones who can save the day?

Wow, it could even be different hot shots every week. Greenwood would be the experienced Admiral putting kids in dangerous situations the higher ups are too smart to get themselves into. and with all different kinds of ships working in tandem, medical ships. refugees from Vulcan transports, etc. and rebuilding a new Vulcan can be the overarching theme and plot.

Frontier,
while not a terrible idea Trek older fans would not like it too much. see the other threads in the Future of Trek forum about Starfleet Academy and the discussion of the drawbacks.
While i dont hate this idea i think it wouldn't come to television before 2015 realistically. Paramount wouldn't want any thunder stolen from the JJverse 3 feature films those actors are contracted for. they know they will make profits from the features but a Trek series is risky and faces constant Nielsen ratings scrutiny and possible cancellation in season 1.

I want a primetime Trek TV series and if that means soapy elements of early 20s cadets then so be it.
i do not think this idea would work on CW as a CGI animated seies.

How about a Phase II second five year mission of an older Kirk, say in his forties and older Spock? with different designs of course.

whats with all the nostalgia? we had enough tos era movies, series whatever. why not look towards the future? 2380-2410?

When the films are out of the way I hope there will be a series in the prime universe will they do that as well I don't think JJ Abrams would to as well direct a Trek tv show when he's working on the Trek sequels just a thought.

Hmmm. As much as I hate The Abomination, I would probably watch such a thing--at least for awhile.
Greenwood's "Pike" is one of the few things in...y'know...that I kind of liked.

I prefer the idea of a Greenwoodesque Pike captaining a starship a few years prior to Kirk and Spock's time. It could even be the Enterprise if they decided to have a separate continuity from the movie.
