I just noticed that IGN's TV section wrote an article listing their top 10 episodes from The Original Series.

Link is below, but for those who don't feel like looking, here is their top 10:

1. 'City on the Edge of Forever'
2. 'Balance of Terror'
3. 'Mirror, Mirror'
4. 'Space Seed'
5. 'The Trouble With Tribbles'
6. 'Where No Man Has Gone Before'
7. 'The Enemy Within'
8. 'The Naked Time'
9. 'This Side of Paradise'
10. 'Arena'

I would've included The Devil in the Dark.

Me too. All of my favourites are there, except "The Devil in the Dark" and "Journey to Babel". I mostly agree with the list, except I haven't seen "Arena" and I didn't like "Where No Man Has Gone Before" very much. It started off promisingly enough, but I didn't like the climax with the hokey fight and Kirk getting all preachy. Do a lot of people really think "Arena" is actually a solid episode? I've only see the fight with the Gorn on Youtube and I can't imagine an episode that spawned such a ridiculous scene being good for the rest of its running time, although I'm willing to accept that it could be. I am sort of 'judging a book by its cover'...but I figured I've already seen the best (or worst? or at least most memorable) part so there's no need to see the rest.

Would you believe that in my original post, I was going to mention excluding Where No Man Has Gone Before, but decided not to in order to not have to defend my opinion? :D
Arena's actually a good one, it shows Kirk can be as clever as MacGuyver. ;)

1. Balance of Terror
2. City on the Edge of Forever
3. The Naked Time
4. Journey To Babel
5. Conscience of the King
6 The Deadly Years
7. The Devil in the Dark
8. The Menagerie
9. Where No Man Has Gone before
10.The Enterprise Incident

Arena's a good ep. but it doesn't belong in the top 10 IMHO. I'd include "The Menagerie", and if you're gonna include pilot eps. I'd rather have "The Cage" than "WNMHGB" in there.

Yeah the Menage should be a top tenner and I like Arena, oh what's the point...I like every friggin episode !!! :)

Pretty good list and I agree, the order may be out of place. It is rather difficult to pick only 10 favorites when there were many good episodes; each with their own merits. I have to agree, Arena should have been there.

I would have also included Tomorrow is Yesterday, it's one of my favorites.

:vulcan: Fascinating choice. I don't think it's one of the top ten episodes, but a very fun one and very underrated. I like it as a 'comedic' episode. I think it's one of the show's better attempts at humour. The way the timeline is restored at the end is a little contrived and hokey, but I can forgive that because the rest is so entertaining.

Where is "The Doomsday Machine"?
Another good one. I looked at it differently after reading Vendetta. My biggest gripe with this episode is rather trivial: the producers were cheap and reshuffled the Enterprise's NCC-1701 into the Constellation's NCC-1017, which is boring and also inconsistent with the other Constitutions. :(

The other Constitutions?
The other Constitution-class ships. Matt Jeffries had originally intended for the Enterprise's sister ships to all have registries in the 1700's.

Switch out the Naked Time with Doomsday Machine and I'm cool with it.

I love Arena! I'm surprised to hear that some of you didn't enjoy it, I just like it that much!

Since the Constellation is the only other starship that appeared on screen with a visible registry number, it's hard to claim that it was inconstant with anything.
