IFC picks up IT Crowd

I can't say I've ever heard of IFC before, so I don't know if it's a popular channel, but at least they're airing the original show.

US cable channel IFC has picked up the rights to Channel 4's The IT Crowd.

The channel has acquired the rights to series one and two, which have already aired in the UK, and also series three, on which production is expected to begin shortly.

IFC plans to give the original UK version its US debut on September 29.

Distributor FremantleMedia Enterprises, which also announced the acquisition by IFC of Modern Toss, and Cartoon Network spinoff Adult Swim's licensing of BBC Two's Look Around You, said that there is a growing trend for Britcoms to air on American cable channels.

Hopefully they'll be satisfied with airing the British version and the idea to do a US remake (though curiously still starring Richard Ayoade) is dead and buried. Or even if it wasn't dead, then buried alive.

I don't think Look around you will travel well, don't get me wrong i love love Look around You, but the humour might just be too, oh whats the word I'm looking for......Subtle.......British.......oh i don't know.

Still looking forward to series 3 of the IT crowd airing here in the UK.

It's basically Father Ted 2006, so it'll probably be as popular as that I would imagine.
I guess if they're going to for the "cool hip Starbucks" crowd, which is the type of person I imagine subscribes to IFC, that might backfire though.

Apparently Graham Lineham is appealing for prop ideas for series 3.

The writer of Channel 4 sitcom The IT Crowd has appealed to the public to provide props for the show's third run.
Writing in his blog, Graham Linehan said he did not have time to choose the items that "litter the main set".
He appealed for fans to suggest posters and toys to decorate the show's "comic shop and batcave" look.
The show, which centres on a trio of computer support staff, won the Rose D'Or for best sitcom in Switzerland earlier this year.
Irish-born Mr Linehan said he had intended the set to look like "a geek's Shangri-La".
'Geek references'
"In each series, I've felt we've nearly got there. Maybe this time, with you guys involved, we'll finally nail it," he wrote.
The writer added that he had only just completed the final episode of the new series. With just three weeks to go until the start of filming, that meant he did not have time to source props himself.
He added that items he liked to see on set included T-shirts, fanzines, board games and "geek references" and asked fans to contact Talkback Thames with their ideas.
