Say you had a choice of which fighter you could pilot in the Rebellion/Empire, what fighter would it be? Me, I'd be in te rebellion, with a Y-Wing fighter, I've just always preferd that one. So what about you?

It doesn't look as cool as the X-wing, but from a technical standpoint it beats it easily. Faster, better shields and armor, better weaponry, etc. Of course, it's a newer fighter, so that's to be expected.

I always thought the B-Wing looked cool but we didn't get more than a glimpse of it at the beginning of the Battle of Endor as the Rebel fleet was approaching the Death Star. I kept hoping to see more of it. It was supposedly designed by the Verpine and was intended to resemble them physically.

I don't think they count because they were used during the Clone Wars but there was one starfighter (I'm not sure if they were in ROTS but they have been seen frequently in the animated series) that have downward facing fold-out wings as well that looked pretty cool.

X-Wing. It has the best balance between speed, maneuverability, durability, and firepower. It's the Mario of the Star Wars universe.
My second vote goes to the Y-Wing. Besides the EU, there's nothing to indicate it's as slow as a Hutt, and its darn tough-looking to boot.

Speed! Speed! And more Speed! Fastest fighter in the Rebellion/New Alliance fleet and a pure Fighter/Recon ship (the X-Wing is more like a medium Fighter/Bomber).
Barring that i'd go for a Tie Interceptor.. far more Firepower and faster than everything but an A-Wing.
