If you were the creator of ENT, what would you have done differently?

Re: If you were the creator of ENT, what would you have done different

if the Romulans were not warp capable and the humans were, well then that would mean that the humans didn't withdraw for a very good reason during the course of four years of protracted battle that was an impossibility to ever wander anywhere near human space since their technology was subwarp.

then of course Archer fought the Xindi and their ships could travel thousands of times faster than his and he still managed to chase them down to a few of their homeworlds and eventually the seat of Xindi power, that for every few months it took him to find a new target, the Xindi could have relaunched strike after against earth and her colonies that were targets only distanced away by a measures of hours. Although the same can be said for the Borg wvs the 24th century humans that itr should have taken Janeway months at top spread to get out past the ranging of merely a borg Cubes proximity navigation scans to make sure they don't bump into debris while traveling at transwarp.

Nuclear missiles as the primary weapons of both sides?

What does a mushroom cloud look like in space?

I imagine that the mushroom shape is only because of the effects of earths gravity.

of course I also assumed that it was possible that man did not go to war with Romulus, but instead man went to war with some hillbillies living on the boondock fringes of Ropmulan space, sort of the Romulan equivalent of Leatherface and the rest of the gang from Texas Chainsaw Massacre who exaggerated about how they were talking for the entire empire when they decided to kill all humans.

Is there anything resembling the original topic left in this thread...?

Re: If you were the creator of ENT, what would you have done different

i dont know but my thoughts..

less klingons.. i would wait till much later to bring them in.

bring in the reeves stevens earlier and keep chris black.

have braga give up or share show runner earlier and let him just concentrate on writing more.

if you want the temporal cold war stuff do two things.

dont bring it in until late first season and know where you are going with it.
it seemed at times they kept on doing it on the fly. and time travel especially change time stuff has to be focused and tightly plotted to work.
the more contradictions build out goes the suspension of disbelief.

i would put tpol into some type of proto starfleet /vulcan uniform from the first.
i see tpol a lot like some of the european officers who came and fought in the revolutionary war.

i have often wondered how some of the american officers especially reacted to so many french officers for instance. the french indian war was not that long in the past.

i really dont have issues with how the ship looked , the weaponary (it was still primitive compared to what a connie has and a enterprise phase pistol is no were as versatile or especially powerful as a phaser) and most of the characters.

i do think someone should have died much sooner aboard ship. waiting till the xindi conflict was unrealistic.

i wish second season they had continued some of the first season story lines.
especially the tandaarian and what happened to the escaped suliban .

knowing the fate of the escaped suliban would have been a way to examine archers decisions as captain.

that first flight and cogentitor had both been first season stories.

we got a lot more background beyond the vulcans held back my father as motivation for archers feelings toward vulcans in first flight.

and in light of what trip says in desert crossing cogentitor should have been mid first season .

oh yeah..
there is an awful lot of evidence that the romulans indeed did have faster then light ships.

;)

...I liked all... except final episode...
I'v be completely trash the episode... because that is not Ent episode, is more like TNG episode... :( ...and I don't like it... :( :(

Re: If you were the creator of ENT, what would you have done different

This is how I'd have handled things:

1. Minimal use of the Klingons before Season 4.

2. No exposure to holodecks or holographic technology.

3. The crew would be armed with lasers instead of phase-pistols and there would be no photogenic torpedoes. Instead, Enterprise would be armed with more 'primitive' plasma weapons - and possibly also some nuclear weapons, which would be considered standard by this time.

4. I would have made some design changes to the exterior of the NX-01 to make it appear more like a forerunner to Kirk's Enterprise rather than to 24th century starships.

5. The transporter would be a purely experimental device used solely for the purpose of on-loading and off-loading supplies. It would break down frequently, with the dematerialized matter never reappearing.

6. There would be less time travel and no Temporal Cold War.

7. The Xindi would only play a minor role. The attack on Earth at the end of Season 2 would be carried out by a long-range Romulan weapon, laying the seeds for the EArth-Romulan War.

8. The final episode would be completely changed. It would not serve as a pseudo-TNG ep, but would involve an elderly member of the senior staff (I got this idea from a previous poster) reminiscing about the establishment of the Federation in 2161 against the backdrop of the nascent Earth-Romulan War. :rommie:

I agree with all the above.

In addition, I think there would be a lot more tension between Vulcan and Humans as some posters mentioned T'Pol would have not been a first officer. The crew would have some international tensions as well as interspecies mistrust - all our societal ills would not yet be gone. We would have been a little repulsed by the thought of interspecies sexual relationships - but maybe not if they look like T'pol.

I would also have the ship more compact in size, a little less mechanically sound, some food and nutrition issues, loneliness complicated by crew gay issues (like prison mentality and seamen emotional instability breakdowns). There would have been a lot of emotional concerns being out of touch with Earth so long lost in space. I think they adapted way too quickly.

Finding and adapting to Vulcans and one or two more types of aliens would have been monumental for the times. Non-humanoid aliens like the Xindi would have been too advanced for our timid society.

I think the problem is as a 4th installment they could not risk looking outdated while keeping new and old fans interested.
