If you were offered 4 million dollars to live inside a game for a year which game world, and would you do it?

Without thinking why did the topic title make me think Leisure Suit Larry?

Well, we know where your mind went... :D

But seriously, I think it'd be fun to re-envision Sierra's entire portfolio of point-and-click adventure games as VR titles from a first-person POV... I'm not thinking LSL so much as all the other titles like King's Quest, Quest for Glory, Space Quest and Police Quest. Roberta William's latest title is a remake of Collossal Cave done from a first-person POV, but I don't know how that's turned out.

So many possibilities...

I once had a very vivid dream of being stuck in the Civilization II: Test of Time game, in the Lalande scenario (science fiction one). The maps in Civ II: ToT have 4 levels, so you have to think 3-dimensionally when building your cities, stationing your military units, and setting up your air bases and teleport platforms.

It's a bit scary, having some of those alien lifeforms actually chasing you, and the whole thing was in extremely vivid color.

I don't think I could survive a whole year in that if I can't be in control of what happens. The aliens from the planet Nona are basically impossible to kill if you have to rely on the computer-based characters to do it, because they're not the most strategic bulbs in the box. With a human player, you have a better chance.

However... I would absolutely love to spend a year in the Casual Arts universe of Park Ranger, Cruise Director, and Christmas Wonderland. The main characters are several filthy rich families who can afford huge houses, lavish trips to a fictitious U.S. national park that is somehow simultaneously located in Washington state and Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada, a very long cruise every year, and another lavish trip and shopping at Christmas time. The only downside is that since these are hidden object games, you're likely to trip over all kinds of crap strewn all over the place. The food in these games looks absolutely delicious, so I wouldn't mind spending a year in this setting.

Or... spend a year in the setting of Griffinvale in King's Heir: Rise to the Throne? Since I've spent the last nearly 6 years writing copious amounts of fanfiction based on this game, this would be the opportunity I'd need to solve some vexing issues that are getting in the way of my writing. I need to construct some kind of blueprint of the house the main character's family lives in. The beta version of one scene makes a lot more sense than the final one that was ultimately released. I have no idea why they put a wall where a door was, since there's no way to get into that room other than to climb a ladder and then climb over a balcony railing. And I very much doubt that's how the family members did it on a daily basis (the pov character had to do it that way in the game since the enemy was busy trashing the rest of the house and he was trying to find his father).

So I'd finally be able to do a proper map of the house and the surrounding neighborhood. I'd be able to map the area around the bridge, where the old king gets murdered. I'd be able to figure out where the actual castle is, since all we see of it is the throne room, and never the outside of it.

And I'd be able to see what the pov character actually looks like. We never get to see his face, and it's so frustrating trying to write this character when I don't have anything to go on other than a vague, blurry silhouette in which I can tell that he has long hair that is probably some shade of blond. And there's another scene where the Heir is about to find the lost crown of King Edwin the Great, and his back is turned. What he's wearing is rather intriguing, and I'd really like to see the front of it - the design, how it's constructed, how much else of his tunic can be seen (can see the sleeves, but not the front)... and he never turns around. It's so annoying.

I have some affinity towards Portland in GTA III.
The first save point could be my accommodation.
If that town wasn't so full of crimes it might be fun to visit.
And if the bridge isn't out it might be fun to visit Stanton Island occasionally.

Ugh, Dreamlight Valley is not what I'd call a great game by any means. Too much grinding and a wasted potential.

I can remove it from my wishlist then..... What is bad about it because it keeps getting good reviews on steam?

BTW on the store page what kind of dress is she wearing, it's blue with what looks like a apron thing on the front?

It's perhaps that I'm not quite the right demographic for it, but I'll quote what I've said in the 'currently playing' thread. It's technically a well-polished and good looking game. but it's so very grindy, and the rewards for completing quests are very hit and miss depending on if you're playing as either male or female. There are generally three types of rewards; clothing, furniture, and food. The game generally expects you to craft things or cook food. The quests generally take days to complete, and I guess my issue with the game is that the rewards are generally not very satisfying given the effort they take to achieve, particularly when achieving the final friendship quests for each character which give you some very specific reward items, say a dress , which feels pretty useless if you're playing a male. And the game is very specific with its rewards like that, and there are few times it will give you any choice.

But I'll say this, the most fun I've had with the game are when the quests have the characters interacting with those from other IPs, and that's where it's at its best. I've just recently unlocked Mike and Sully from Monsters Inc and let them free into the world. But the game required a lot of grind just to get to that point and I've been playing for almost a year. The game requires in-game currency to unlock the realms and to do that you do quests and complete tasks. It will probably be months before I'll be able to unlock my next realm.

Oh, that outfit? That's actually Belle from Beauty and the Beast, and it's what she wore in the movie.

I've recently gotten back into Disney's Dreamlight Valley, and I'm not sure why. I suppose it's something to do, but I don't find it to be a great game. And I suppose I'm really not the right demographic for it, but I've never seen a game be so condescending without saying anything outright, but actions are often louder than words, right?

In this case, you can design a male character, and and most of the rewards in this game are either furniture or outfits as per what the game is trying to be. Early in the game's progression you'll be allowed to choose between outfit variants of reward items. But as the game progresses, and the more content has been added, that choice disappears, and you're left with reward items that I'll never use. As a guy, playing a guy, who grinds out a pretty lengthy questline after questline only to receive a... dress, well, colour me disappointed and dejected. It would be comical if it didn't happen constantly. It's like the game is trying to tell me something!

I'd just like content that I could actually use for my character.

What, only a year? I can't stay longer? Haha. I'd choose Resident Evil 4 Remake's Valdelobos, and, more specifically, the island. What a wonderful place. I love remote and isolated places, and that one definitely fits the bill.

Oh that was Belle thanks i found a bigger picture where the characters were clearer

Yeah, it's what they use for the title screen and loading screen, but they will change and display different characters depending on the updates they put out. For example, they just introduced Tiana from the Princess and The Frog and Timon and Puumba.

I'd wonder around New Atlantis. Seems the safest place to spend a video game year.
