If you found yourself in the Star Trek Universe?

Crewman47

Commodore
Newbie
I found a fan fic on Fanfiction.net where a girl from the real world, who has a little knowledge of Star Trek from watching re-runs (specifically Voyager), ends up on Voyager in the Star Trek universe. I haven't read the full story yet but the girl has decided that after speaking to Janeway it'd go against the temporal prime directive to reveal everything that's going to happen in the next 7 years.

Anyway I thought, if you ended up in this situation, in any Trek era, once you realise when you were and there was little to no hope of returning, would you:

a) tell the senior crew everything that's going to happen from that point on,

b)reveal things on an episode by episode basis, or

c)become part of the team and experience the whole adventure as it happens.

One of the events that does change in the fan fic is that girls manages to save Hogans life from the Eel in Basics becuase she knew it was going to happened and she had become a friend of Hogans.

For me, I'm not sure how I do it as I'd like to tell them everything but how would it actually affect future events if one event is played out differently or avoided, like if you ended up in the TOS era and lived through the movies, you could save Spock's life in TWOK or even avoid the events of TWOK altogether by telling Kirk about Khan. Or what if you ended up on DS9, could you prevent the Dominion War from happening just by telling Sisko and co how to avoid a confrontation with the Founders/Jem Hadar?

Going on an episode basis means you would reveal certain details that would be relevant to the situation but again could revealing too much about the current situation alter any events in the future?

So what you do?

I'd have to think long and hard as to what to reveal and what to conceal. I'd get briefed by the top minds on the subject.

I probably wouldn't be atheist/agnostic anymore. If I ended up in the Trek universe, I would regard it as going to Heaven.

Probably a little bit of b and a little bit of c. Only revealing information that will be helpful in the long run.

Otherwise I'd just be happy to be there.

I would just go straight to the holodeck and hump the hell out of every celebrity I've ever wanted to hump the hell out of.

Well, I would protect them from only incidents that would kill any crew members. I would also tell them to expand the shuttle bay and create a fleet of Delta Flyers with Harry and Tom commanding the fleet. I would also tell Tuvok to create an Elite Force Unit for handling deadly intruders, too. I would also tell them that they would need to install Holo-Emitters in my quarters so I can create Holo-adventures for the crew (to help boost morale). I would also encourage them to keep finding new ways in increasing Voyager's weapons and shields, too.

If I ended up on Voyager season 1 I'd be worried to say anything in case I messed up the timeline and prevented Seven from being rescued from the collective. Who knows what else might change, maybe prevent Voyager from getting into one lot of trouble and end up in worse trouble. Also there are only certain episodes I remember really well, usually I only remember them halfway through by which time Voyager would probably already be in trouble.

i'd tell them to go ahead and do the warp ten thing, then just have the doctor cure them when they got home. why they didn't do that in the first place i'll never know.

also, would have sex with marylin monroe on the holodeck. her and 11ty of the hottest women in hollywood. and of course i'll program them to be freaks!

Sure. The universe has already snatched me from MY world and hurled me into what I once thought was a fictional world so what the hell do I care about not messing with the timeline. Timeline shmimeline!

Imagine how annoying you'd be..

"OMG Chak doesn't know Seska is a Cardassian!!!!"

"Don't give me that sweet talk Kes, everyone knows you will like, blow up, in Fury."

"He's not waiting Kathryn. Better put the photo away.."

Just by showing up on whatever ship/era you pick you change things, without even actively doing anything.

A butterfly flaps its wings in New York and the weather changes in Tokyo, chaos effect and what not.

So since your information and foreknowledge becomes more and more irrelevant the longer you're around, I would immediately find the highest Starfleet authority I could talk to, and info-dump ever possible thing I think might save lives or alter things in the future for the better.

Um...well, if I was on Voyager while stuck in the Delta Quadrant I'd make up an excuse for having knowledge of the DQ and while I wouldn't give away everything I'd use the info I had to help the crew get home safe. I'd also like to make a sort of alliance with the Hirogen, they're a lot better allies then enemies...although the only way to reason with them would be to promise them a better hunt than I could ever provide, maybe lead them to some 8472 or something?

If I was on DS9, for the first little bit (if it was around the first season) I'd just enjoy hanging out with everyone, playing darts with Miles and Julian, infuriating Quark by not falling for any of his Ferengi schemes since I'd hopefully have enough knowledge to see them coming. Then I'd apply for a security position with Odo, preferably something more along the lines of detective than a guard. I'd give Garak just enough information to let him know I knew who he was and become his ally. I'd save Jadzia, or try to, and if I failed, I'd go along with Worf's quest to get her into sto'vo'kor.

If I showed up on the Enterprise-D, I'd probably just spend a lot of time on the holodeck, join the Senior Staff Poker Game and hang out in Ten-Forward.

If I was on the NX-01, since several factions are already screwing with the timeline, I'd find Daniels, tell him what I know about the TCW and convince him and Archer to deal with the Xindi threat before they killed half of Florida.

In general, if I was in the Trek universe on no specific ship, I'd enjoy the edge I had with my knowledge of species and their culture, knowledge that is easily obtained from the show but that all outsiders wouldn't necessarily know. It'd be easier to negotiate because I'd know how to act around different species, like appealing to the Cardassian pack mentality, the Klingon warrior spirit, Vulcan logic, Ferengi avarice, Romulan duplicity, and so on. It'd be a lot of fun.

Not sure what faction I'd join, maybe Romulans. Or I'd start my own non-aligned exploration/trading crew if I could get my hands on a decent ship and again use my knowledge to get a good crew together. Sell/give information to the Federation about the Dominion and other threats, not so much foreknowledge or predictions as descriptions and organizational things.

If you did find yourself in the Trek-verse you would become the biggest deus ex machina ever! Even more so than Wesley or Seven and you could become even more annoying by solving everything before the end of the first act.

Just thought about this some more. And I would want to go to the Enterprise-Era. That way you could go to Admiral Forest and tell him to sack Archer and put in a more competent CO, and then send them on a mission to find the Xindi and open up talks with them, so as to prevent the attack on Earth and stop the Sphere Builders. That way, saving millions of lives across the Americas and establishing humanity as a species of peacemakers.

This would also elliminate IMO two very poor seasons and a Captain who doesn't seem to know what he is doing.

I would tell them information that would help on the long run. If I went to the Enterprise era, I would tell them everything I know about the Xindi. The Xindi arc looks good on screen, but there's no way I'd voluntarily take part in it. If I went to Voyager, I would try to get them back home faster.

Could you post a link to the fanfic?

I would definitely go with c. I wouldn't want to disrupt everything.

I'd spill. Especially if I was stuck on voyager, not telling something that could save my own life would just be dumb. Screw the timeline, the future hasn't happened yet, and this isn't my universe anyway.
