So.. the manager's original story was that Gaga had personally said no. Now the story has changed and it's the manager who turned it down. I'm not sure why everyone is so quick to believe this new version of events, especially since it very conveniently makes Gaga look a lot better.
Me, I'm inclined to think the first story is true, that she heard the song and refused to give permission. Though to be fair, I'm guessing she receives about 100 stupid requests a day to use her music and she turns most of them down. And it's only when she realized there's a big overlap between her geek fanbase and Weird Al's geek fanbase that she changed her mind.
I kind of doubt Gaga's even heard of Weird Al before this, she wasn't even born when "Eat It" was a hit.

^I'm sure she has, it's not like Weird Al isn't known to young people today. Lady Gaga is only a year younger than me, and I grew up listening to many Weird Al songs. And more recently, his White and Nerdy song was very popular.
Nothing about Lady Gaga annoys me. I think she's great.
I was born three years after Al released "Eat It" and I'm still a big fan.
I'm inclined to believe it because I know that most of the time, assistants and aides make decisions like that in the name of their principals without their principals actually hearing about it. It's their job.
I doubt it. The woman was accepted early into the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. She's well-educated and she's familiar with the past thirty years of American popular music, as a casual glance at her output will reveal. I'm sure she's well aware of who Weird Al is.
