If you could rewrite Voyager

Voyager could have ended like SGU, with the crew of Voyager forging ahead, not sure if they'll ever see home.

Do you other posters think that that would have upset the audience?
Probably, but it wouldn't have upset me, especially if there was a feature film that followed the series showing them get home (or get closer to home).

A poll would clear that up but people's views change over time. What they wanted then and now might be different. I am guessing a majority wanted conclusion with a snippet of where are they now? And some wanted a nice conclusion where they decide they are a new family and decide to explore space and make the best of it (or maintain a generational ship which is wierd. Their kin is unlikely to be as passionate to go to a home they have no emotional attachment to but then some may be curious but that's a separate issue not in question here)

Not sure if "upset" is the word, but it certainly feels anti-climatic to me.

Eh, I'd feel a bit ripped off. Sounds too much like Quantum Leap's ending.

Sam going back to make sure Al's wife never left him so now he doesn't have Al's help and the screen cuts to black and says Sam never made it home.

You're right, it's been so many years, I had forgotten how it ended or should I say didn't end?

The last caption should have said "He's still out there, setting right what once went wrong, hoping the next leap will be the leap that sends him home.

I think everyone has things they personally would have liked to have seen. That doesn't mean it's something that would necessarily make the show better or that anyone else would enjoy.

No, it was a cop-out as well. Like I said before ideally they should've gotten home in S4 or something and then go back to the Delta Quadrant but with a real purpose for being out there.
Read the new novels ;)

I think it would have been worse if they got home early. One of the main points of interest to me was the fact that they were alone in the Delta Quadrant without the support of Starfleet.

IMO, that's not a terribly interesting plot. "Lost and on your own" needs to grow and develop into something more.

Yeah not everyone wants to see the same thing. For me I like the concept of being in unfamiliar space meeting new aliens and such. Personally I think Voyager did this well. There were always new species and new things but we occasionally saw something familiar which was nice too.

Agreed. I don't envy the product team trying to figure out a middle ground to appease.

It just didn't feel like it paid off the part about being lost. I love the exploration side, and I suppose that is consistent with exploration in history, but still not what I thought the show would be about.

Now, that said, VOY introduced some of my favorite aliens, as well as a great concept with the micro wormhole, and exploring some different ideas. Tom Paris and B'Elanna's relationship remain one of my favorite romances. In my opinion, that relationship works very well against the backdrop of being lost out in space.

But, Voyager never felt very lost.
