If you could rewrite Voyager

I thought she said "you can't not that I have ever known"

She said that if they had run into the Borg years later without Q's interference then they'd have worked out a way of co-existing with them in peace. But for now they see the Feds as resources, not beings to live with. So one day it's possible, and if they run into a stronger species then it's probably going to happen there (diplomacy).

The point I guess would be that they are either emotionless or beyond our sense of good or evil even while being sentient. Sort of like an insect horde that proceeds with but a single purpose...consume and assimilate.

I think it was a bad idea to make them emotionless and monotone. If the Borg are made up of trillions of beings, then as well as their combined intellects they should all possess all their mental problems/neuroses/anger/self-loathing sensations as well all magnified several times over. This would mean each Cube's actions would be influenced by the people they've assimilated (otherwise what's the point of making them a Collective mind if the resulting Gestalt being isn't the result of those minds together?). A much more interesting dynamic than just the same old "We are the Borg" spiel.

Frankly I really wish that would have happened in END GAME. It would have been fantastic and more believable. Janeway delivers the Virus while 8472 keeps them busy. In that we think alike.

I'd just have killed all the Borg in "Scorpion" and then Endgame is just about the VOY crew finding the leftover Borg technology (being fought over by several other hostile aliens). They use the Transwarp to go home while blowing it up to keep it out of the others' hands.

In other words, any Borg stories after "Scorpion" would be about dealing with the leftover advanced Borg tech and not the Borg themselves (in fact, they'd have to try and make sure the tech isn't accidentally used to revive the Borg by assimilating new people).

I did a search on the scripts and didn't find Hive Mind there. Could you have the dialogue?

Crusher mentioned the "Hive Mind" or "Hive Mentality" in BOBW part II.

It's accurate to say that the Sith work because they are supervillains and that they appeal as polar opposites to super hero's. I couldn't draw the conclusion that they work by necessity of their individuality.

Each Sith is an individual with his/her own personality and own methodology. The Sith don't all act the same or do the same stuff. Plus the Sith the audience are most used to are the same two Sith: Vader and Palpatine. They really aren't that interested in the others.

Many Villians have worked with individuality, such as the Aliens and Terminator or the Predators which never gave you any clue to characterization.

The Aliens are a Hive Mind ruled by their Queen. The Terminators are just drones ruled by the Skynet system, and the Predators are all individuals with their own personalities.

Much of this is stolen from Alex's post.

1) Keep Janeway's moods more consistent. I have no problem with her being depressed, ship's mom, tough captain and occasionally a woman (either seduced or seductress). In fact, as a female working in a male profession, I sometimes see myself as having many incongruent sides. But there needs to be more acknowledgement (maybe in the form of a friend or personal logs) discussing these facets or trying to integrate them.

2) Noticeable damage of ship and more negotiation for supplies. The argument that these would be "boring" is simply incorrect. Enterprise "Dead Stop" perfect example. I didn't like the "invincible Voyager".

3) Less Borg, No Queen

4) More exotic worlds and alien species and better developed as well. Less TNG forehead aliens of the week. I liked the idea of the Kazon -- a race that we get to see over and over. Maybe a few more. And at least one that gets along with voyager.

5) Little to no Time Travel. Indeed.

6) More maquis tension. It shouldn't complete overwhelm the show, but there needed to be more.

7) Make Harry Kim gay. And for at least 2 seasons show him dating someone (or leaving someone in the alpha quadrant) or whatever. Just make it clear he's gay, but never make a show about it. Ie, it's no big deal.

8) Less interaction with the alpha quadrant (ie, less aliens making people think they are home and less finding alpha quadrant species flung into the delta quadrant and much less frequent communication with home). Maybe once every few seasons. I did like Janeway's Dear John letter.

9) Make more babies born earlier on voyager. Doesn't have to be a big topic of conversation. Maybe even just make a few more minor characters with them.

10) Keep Kes around. Lose the focus on 7 of 9, although I do think she's a fun character.

11) No mobile emitter. Keep the EMS an EMS.

12) At least one major character death. My votes would be Kim, Tuvok or Chakotay.

13) More discussion/worry about what will happen to folks in the alpha quadrant (who is going to jail?). How many violations of Star Fleet Protocol is Janeway guilty of?

14) Force Voyager to be in an alien space dock or on an alien planet for half a season or so -- let real alien interactions develop. Maybe even pick up a few new alien crew members and lose a few original voyager crew members.

15) Less resets. Make the year of hell a real year. Make it a few episodes.

16) Less holographic episodes. Takes too much energy -- maybe have one once in a while, but you can put a pool table in the mess hall.

17) I'm not sure if I would have ended the show with them in a good place in the delta quadrant, still heading home or ended it with them landing on earth. But, if they were going to get home, I would have spent more time on what was likely to happen to that crew.

18) No TNG characters.

19) More random pairing episodes. Less 7/J episodes. Make more J/T or Torres/Kim or any major character and some minor characters. This was done better in the first few seasons. But it's neat to watch the dynamics between any pair or trio. DS9 did a good job with this. And while we're at it, Janeway and Torres seemed to be becoming friends in seasons 1 and 2. I'd like to see them be good friends (like a Kira/Dax situation).

20) Speaking of pairings. No 7/C. Let Torres have her baby before the last episode. It would be a bit of a pain (but babies are), but it would be fun to watch the real issues of childcare to be addressed. Let Voyager be a real village (a playpen in engineering and on the bridge).
