If you could pre-imagine Abram's Enterprise D...

Well, I wasn't sure how to introduce this. I like the new movie ship, yet I still find myself not 'sure" about a few things.

But, inspired by their re-working of the old E, and the "Reboot TNG/casting" thread in the TNG forum, I started playing with hypothetical "Bad Robot" ideas for the Enterprise D (if such a movie were ever to be made, or if they would even go in that direction.). There is a certain amount of satire here, obviousy. (The saucer wouldn't be that freakin' big...for example :) ).
I've had fun with it so far.
Curves upon curves. Pointless greebles galore. Phallus.

*All that "warp coil-greeble stuff" in the nacelles will be obscured by "glass"....that's where the cool animated lighting FX come from. And, the saucer is still WIP.
(Sorry, stupid Photoshop is still giving me serious weird issues, otherwise this would be more "rendered" than it is).

I know. It's like.....? Gawd. WTF?.

Oh well, enjoy.

WTF? Indeed. I'm not sure tons of greeblies are appropriate; the Abramsprise is pretty smooth, even to the point of having less surface detail in some areas than the original (no intercoolers, no grills or pipes on the inside of the nacelles, fewer windows, no scoop on the bototm of the saucer, etc.) I also think it's too much of a departure from the appearance of the original. Maybe try keepign more of the original proportions?

I couldn't agree with Malakai more. You summed it up quite nicely.
The only thing I would add, or rather expand upon, Abrams made a point to stick a great deal to the original (well, the refit). JJ's style is mostly about simplicity and grace, less of the cutting edge "wtf" designs. I say, stick the the original proportions, if you do anything, make the engineering hull a couple decks shorter and slightly longer, while bulking up the engines. And remember, Abrams is all about adding a flow to the original. Whenever I see my friend's work, I just see it as an Abrams' take on the Soveriegn. http://madeinjapan1988.deviantart.com/art/A-New-Perception-VIEW-1-WIP3-110468690 Notice how the warp grills flow.

As always, interested to see your future work. :drool:
Not saying that this is bad, I like it, just not what I'd imagine a JJ Ent-D to be.

As always, your work is awe inspiring.

WTF? :wtf:

Why does the secondary hull look exactly like the front end of a BSG Viper?

Also keep in mind that the JJ-ENT has a saucer very much like the TMP one. By extension, the JJ-ENT-D should also have a saucer very similar to the Probert-ENT-D.

I also think you're still extrapolating from the "old, guesstimate" proportions of the JJ-ENT, not the long, sleek nacelles we've now seen on the Playmates toy.

The JJ-ENT proportions aren't nearly so f'ed up as your sketch or as much as you'd think from Probert's moaning about it.

Well, I think it looks very interesting! I think a 3d version of that bad boy would be very impressive! It does look as if you took the streamlining of the original that was done for this movie, and extrapolate 100 years from that. Sure, maybe the timeline hasn't changed that much at the point of the new movie... but who's to say what would happen that many years in the future?

I really like this. :) Probably because it looks weird. :) Keep working on it, please.

Not to purposely bump this by any means, but I wanted to comment on a few things, particularly this: http://madeinjapan1988.deviantart.co...WIP3-110468690..
Johnnymuffintop, your friend has an incredible design here...love to see this in 3D. Wow. The attention to detail is amazing. (the tiny labeling, etc.)

Otherwise,
Yes, it was over-the-top and goofy :). Not meant to be mean-spirited to the new movie in any way. I was trying some new PS stuff and the image ended up being "this". And, the "viper front-end", Sonic Ranger, you're right...I completely missed that. :) Ooops.

Oh well, enough said. :)
On to other things, other threads.

I like the way the nacelle struts and the saucer work together, but the secondary hull looks like the ship has one of those Viagra side-effects you're supposed to see a doctor about. ;)

I like it, it looks very interesting!

I can see what you were trying to do, take the same proportion - changing as the new TOS ENT.

Considering Abrams' focus on SW, I'd guess the dish would look like the MILLENNIUM FALCON, and the rest of the ship would be a giant expansion on the back end and pods of a Y-WING. (am actually surprised his TOS ship doesn't look like this, though to be fair, the hodgepodge he did come up with is just as bad, with its mix of styles and sizes.)

I was bored, on a bus and thought of this. Which doesn't make me sound nerdy at all ;)

It ended up being more FC-ish than intended, but I tried to keep the general shape of the primary and secondary hull (a bit fatter and round though), though the positioning of the grills under the registry, general shape of the top levels and impulse drives with shuttle bay between them seems to be the only D elements left over.

The two hour trip also gave birth to the Kirayoshi;

And an odd BOP;

Not the most productive use of my notepad...
