If You Could Own 1 TOS Prop, Costume or Set....

Spock's Barber

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
What would you choose?

I'd take the whole Bridge set because it is so well designed and constructed. Plus it looks cool!

Any of the crew chairs would work for me; I can get replicas of the phaser/communicator/etc. More expensive to find the original chair types.

Gene Winfield's Reactor show car, which stood in for the Jupiter 8 in "Bread and Circuses".

The whole Bridge would be cool, but I'd have nowhere to put it. So I guess I'd take Spock's chair from his science station. It looks a lot like any chair, but Spock sat in it. :luvlove:

Prop: Phaser rifle.
Costumer: Kirk's first season wraparound outfit.
Set: Cestus III
Character: Helen Noel

Prop: That bronze Shiva, or whatever the balls in Spock's quarters.

Costume: I would not wear any of them - with the possible exception, perhaps, of Christopher Pike's Picnic Outfit. I mean ... I just can't see me wearing anything from this show. It's all shite.

Set: The ENTIRE set, huh? But, they're either cheap-ass plywood and/or papier-mâché. This is going to be a hell of a challenge! Alright, if this can be included as a "Set," then I'll take that farm from the Spore planet - Delta Rays and all. That looked very charming! I'm quite taken by it ...

Would you care for me to pop into your beloved TNG forum and start running down a lot of things while in there? It would be pretty damned easy.

Have you ever seen any of the TNG props (like the transporter console or hand ohasers) or the sets (like a section of corridor or the warp core) up close? Cheap plastic you could probably break with your hands. And the props look like toys from Toys'R'Us.

If I had the space, the bridge--brilliant. One of the most memorable set designs in film history.

Anything else, a Tricorder and the Phaser rifle. Always loved both designs.

You are not kidding. I saw the bridge set of TNG in person--when the series was in production, and the panels required much to hide the sins of cheap production. But Warped, remember--certain people love to attack the most popular, loved part of the franchise--probably due to TNG being so forgettable. Really, in general culture, who ever refers to it?

You're right. My essential point is that the final image on film hides a lot of sins and short cuts. The TNG warp core looks respectable onscreen, but in person it looks like a cheap playground piece. The corridor I walked through looks like some kind of alloy onscreen, but in person it looks embarassingly fake and fragile.

Once in awhile the reverse can happen. The TMP two-piece uniforms can look uninspired onscreen, but I saw them in person at an exibition display and they looked really nice close up.

Gentlemen,

Please be assured that I was just eXpressing myself, offering reasons behind my prop choices and why I found this particular thread's query so challenging. As an Artist, I depend on outside criticism to improve my work. Some of which is quite brutal! In any case, STAR TREK, the original series, is an entertaining romp and I'm fond of it. However, I never gave owning any of it much thought, until now. And that's just what I came up with, but it was done with the best of intentions.

Best Regards,

Terms like "cheap ass" and "shite" aren't likely to tbe taken as words of endearment accepted warmly.

No problem. This thread was just for fun, since very few of us have the opportunity to own an original item from TOS, let alone being able to afford the price tag for these rare pieces.
