When I grow tired of the holodeck, I'll could sell it for the real island and the real women then.:p

Maybe my life isn't so bad then, since I'd use a holodeck recreationally but probably not barricade myself in one.

I'd love to have a program where I could fly over cities basically weightless. Sex with supermodels would be interesting, but how many times could you do that in a day? 3? 4? repeat every day? I may be getting old, but I get along fine with once/twice a week.

Other than that what? Sports? I'm happy playing sports in real life. I suppose watching an immersive movie would be pretty cool, like being the main character in a story.

But seriously, I don't think normal people would get addicted. I have a 60" 3D Plasma, and a 27" IPS monitor to go along with a really fast computer. I love playing Crysis Warhead maxed out graphics, but I'm pretty bored after an hour. I like watching 3D Blu-Rays, but I can get 2 movies max before I'm bored of that too.

I think a holodeck would probably end up being the same. People would go in for a while, have whatever fun they wanted, and then get back to their lives until the next time.

I wonder how many people would use the holodeck with the safeties off. The thrill-seeking types most certainly would. I'd bet Vulcan Love Slave Part II: The Revenge or consorting with your favorite Bond girl would be quite a different experience with the safeties turned off.

Just sayin'.

^Even though I dis-included the food replicator in the holodeck, the only time I would turn off the safety protocols would be when I'm drinking alcohol, or maybe ingesting drugs... that'll work right?

In TNG, if you turn of the safety protocols and ordered a wiskey at a bar, would it be synthohol?

I'm rather shocked and horrified that the holodeck is winning out over warp drive. Does nobody want to "boldly go" anymore? :(

Boldly go where?

Even if there is life on other planets, it's likely to be moss lichens, or protozoa. "Maybe" primitive primates, who knows.

^There are multiple applications for Warp technology. You could use it to resupply earth's water from one of Jupiter or Saturn's moons.

I'm still choosing holodeck though.

I'd say a holodeck. But holodeck, replicator and transporter are connected technologies. And to run a holodeck, you need an insane amount of energy.

^We covered the energy thing (and warp ship) earlier, choices come with the things you need to make them work (including power sources). I removed the replicator from the holodeck too but I guess it would need the transporter to do certain things (like skydiving), so it has it but you couldn't teleport anywhere outside of the holodeck with it.

Why would you need a transporter for skydiving? I'd imagine the holodeck would just create the illusion of you falling by making the air move up past you at your terminal velocity.

I gave a bad example but I do know holodeck's have transporters, for whatever reason.
