I'd be a little less invested.
The fact no Klingon war was mentioned before TOS? Irrelevant, as there were clearly prior hostilities. Ships look different and tech is maybe more advanced than it should be? Ok, Enterprise isn't prime universe either then.
If Discovery were extremely well written, I'd still be invested whether or not, but since it's only okay-written so far, it makes me more invested that it happens in the same universe.
Frankly if Star Trek decides to stop building their main universe and keep spinning off unrelated new projects called Star Trek, I will stop caring they are called 'Star Trek', and then the same standards will apply for Star Trek as they do for any old new show.
