If the dollhouse is underground

From what I can tell, only DeWitt's office is above ground. The rest is below ground.

I would guess that at least part of the facility would have to be underground because it uses geothermal power and its own water supply in order to use a little of the local utilities as possible.

This hadn't occurred to me. Is it a glitch? Do we ever see Adelle leaving her office and entering the rest of the house, like she's gone from one room to the other? Maybe they gave her an office above ground because its views are a status symbol to visitors/customers, and because its away from the rest of the house for security reasons....

^Yes, we've seen DeWitt and Dominic get in to a lift outside her office and (according to the commentary through the use of a very skillfully done dissolve) get out in the Dollhouse itself. Although the trip was very short.

I'm guessing that there might be some sort of front organisation present in that building on the levels between DeWitt's office and the Dollhouse itself.

Adelle's office is on a high floor of the building that contains the Dollhouse deep beneath it. Travel between the two is by elevator. You can see this in the final act of "Epitaph One" on the DVDs -- they go from the Dollhouse to an elevator shaft, climb the shaft, and end up in Adelle's office. (I don't think that's specific enough to constitute a spoiler...)

^It's not really a spoiler since we clearly see DeWitt and/or Dominic enter a lift in her office and then exit that same lift in the Dollhouse in multiple episodes.

wonderful invention: elevators. lol jk (about the tone not the elevators >_<)

as was stated before, there is an actual building on top of the dollhouse compound. her office is on that building. take it this way, there are certain businesses where you have a warehouse separate from the office. same thing here. they just adopted a closer "warehouse" to house their goods.

I watched "Needs" again last night. As the Actives are escaping they go up several flights of stairs in to generic office building corridors and Echo points out that they still haven't seen any windows.

Elevators can be quick. I live on the 41st floor and it takes maybe a minute minute and a half to get here from street level.

For security reasons, you wouldn't want her office in the Dollhouse. Its also makes it much easier for her to have legitimate alibi through a front company.

Adelle asked for her office to be up there so that she could install a private zipline down to the street level. Can't do that from underground, after all!

Her security chief only OK'd such a hazardous egress method because Adelle always wore skirts.

(What else would the Actuals have been expecting to find at the top of that rope ladder?)
