We're doing that already. Controlled flooding areas, higher dams, de-poldering, ... It should help for a small sea level rise. Not 10 metres though, but a few we should be able to handle!
Oh, and the southernmost islands on the map actually correspond to bits of rich neighbourhood... Typical![]()
Yeah, I bet they will get crowded. Especially since the largest island is just the city's main square with the old city hall on itLots of room there.
In terms of land area the Earth could comfortably house several hundred billion people.
Yeah. Say goodbye to Venice, Padua, Ravenna, Ferrara... in short, half of the people I know would be swimming. With a 10m rise, my parents' house near Bologna will be 10 minutes from the sea. Sweet.I wouldn't be affected at all (unfortunately, I would like the sea a little closer), but north-east Italy would be fucked.
Contrary to popular sentiment, Venice is not built on stilts, but on a close archipelago of small islands...Maybe parts of the Netherlands will be more like Venice in the future - entire cities built on stilts.
According to that site half of my town would be flooded. I'd be in the flooded part. Half a mile from the non-flooded part. Oooh, so close!
