If Rodenberry were alive today, what would he think of Star Trek?

Ok, here's the question:

If Rodenberry was here now, what would think of what star trek has become? and also, of where it may go in the future, and the people that have and are keeping his dream alive. Would he be happy to see star trek living on in the eyes of hundreds of millions of fans, or would he be disgusted that his original concept has been changed so much?

Also, what would he think of the new movie, the director, and of the new enterprise design?

Have to believe he'd be disgusted with Berman and Braga but pleased with Moore. Don't know what he'd think about Abrams considering he is tinkering with "his" original characters etc... but if he were honest I think he'd understand that the franchise needed to evolve.

He'd say "where's my cut?", "where are the three breasted whores?" and "what about a story where spock has to kill JFK".

I think he would have been excited about TOS-RM, as well as the work done on TMP. But particularly TOS in high def with sweet FX I think he'd have loved, to take nothing away from the innovation of earlier days.

I bet he would be fine with it. He had seen Star Trek resurrected from the dead twice (the letter writing campaign and the success of the show in reruns that led to TMP) so seeing it still going strong after 40 years would make him proud and happy. He had plenty of problems with later Trek while he was still alive, so I assume he would not be in love with everything that had happened. I agree with the poster that he would also be asking where his cut was!

He'd decanonize DS9 and run Ronald D. Moore through with a pike. Which is one reason I'm really okay with him staying dead for now.

He'd say "Aren't I dead? And why do all you people think you know what I'd think?"

He'd say "where's my cut?", "where are the three breasted whores?" and "what about a story where spock has to kill JFK".

This sounds most likely. Most accounts of Rodenberry I've read are far from flattering. He'd probably be wringing it for every last nickel while stealing as much creative credit as possible from everyone involved.

Quite true.

But, then again, no man is free of sin.

And then snort some coke off of a hookers stomach.

... and then he'd cast her as First Officer.

With his penis.

At least until paramount walked in and saw it ... then we'd have a reboot ... of the reboot.

Of course had JJ Abrams been around in 1966, Captain Kirk would have been chased around by polar bears and intelligent clouds, and there would be random numbers everywhere to build mystery. Like why the fuck are there numbers carved on the trees. Also, Dharma would be behind every adventure. And everybody would want to know why Pike doesn't want to visit earth (hint: HE CAN WALK IN SPACE).

Of course, Kirk actually was chased by a giant cloud...

I think I speak for Gene when I say I fully disapprove of intelligent clouds. Particularly ones that go "tikka-tikka-tikka" and rip up trees.

As for Dharfleet... that could work.

I'm so with you on intelligent clouds. Give me space hippies and Corelone Planet any day.

As long as he was still making money off it, he wouldn't give a damn about Trek. Now if Berman or Braga or Abrams or whoever did something to personally piss him off, then he'd go apeshit, decanonize their work, make them pariahs. But otherwise, he'd be happy to collect money and maybe visit the Trek sets every now and then to chat up the actors.
