If Nimoy were to photograph Voyager's Secret Selves...

JanewayRulz!

The part I'm referring to...

In an interview with A.V. Club, Nimoy explained how he chose the subjects for Secret Selves. “I came across a story that comes down to us from ancient Greece; supposedly, Aristophanes, the playwright/philosopher, was at one of Sophocles’ symposia and posited a fanciful explanation for human angst, anxiety, and emotional discomfort. He said that at one time, humans were double people, with four arms, four legs, and two heads, attached back-to-back to one another in all the various combinations of male and female. So when man became powerful and arrogant, the gods were angry and sent Zeus to solve the problem, which he did by taking a big sword and splitting everybody in two, sending them on their separate paths. And ever since then, said Aristophanes, humans have been searching for the other, lost part of themselves, to make themselves feel whole again, to reintegrate.

“I was struck by that idea, that many of us have another side to us that we are not in touch with, or that we do not get a chance to explore or present. We present a certain aspect of ourselves, but there are other unexplored, or hidden, or lost parts to ourselves.

If Nimoy were to photograph the Voyager crew, or heck anyone from the 5 Star Trek series... what secret selves would he find?

Hmmmm.

I guess this is harder than I thought.

I will go with the obvious, first. B'Elanna's secret self is her human half. We saw her in "Faces"... the scared human who nonetheless was able to swallow her fear and work to defeat the Vidian computer system and its safety net. Who later learned to swallow her disrespect for her Klingon half, and allow her back into her world so she could save B'Elanna's life yet again.

Janeway: A photo of her on a farm in Indiana with her Irish Setter, wearing a dress, far away from her space and command roots

Tuvok: Playing the Vulcan Lyre for his Wife on Vulcan, not a phaser in sight, a detachment from the Security Chief, rather we see a Creative Family Man

Seven Of Nine and The Doctor: The Doctor sat at a piano wearing a dress suit, while Seven is sat on a stool wearing a dress, as if they've just been captured by a performance, the setting a quiet lounge Bar on Earth

Those are a couple I can think of

I hope I'm getting this right......

I'm guessing the secret self of Neelix is the one we saw in "Jetel", "Fair Trade" & "Once Upon a Time". The terrified little boy inside the man in desperate need to be needed.

I think Kes' secret self would be the powerful psionic within her waiting to be unleashed. The person we saw in "Coldfire" & "The Gift", that was thrilled by what she could do.

The Doc's secret self is the part that understands he's only light and technology. That he's aware no power means no life and it makes him less perfect and more vulnerable than he'd like to admit. He has to rely on others for his existence.

Did I get it right?

I disagree with the real Janeway as being on an Indiana farm. I think the real Janeway would be "large and in charge" of a Galaxy-class starship or a fleet of them! :techman:

But we aren't speaking "real". The "real" Janeway would be, as you said, "large and in charge"... but where is her "other" half?

Hmmm. Well, she was pretty girly when talking to Mark in Caretaker. I'm guessing she might enjoy being a bit submissive in a relationship . . . on her terms, of course. :guffaw:

Hence, what I suggested in my post, the "feminine side" of Janeway, far removed from her Starship Command, "all work and no play" side

Hmmm.

Sounds a lot like the "post storm" version of Janeway we saw in "Resolutions."

I swear, I never saw those hips swing as much in the corridors of Voyager as they did walking from the tomato patch to the house to look over those boat plans.

CHAKOTAY: I'm not sure we could fit the bathtub in the boat.

JANEWAY: Well, that's all right. I'll have the river.

Close-up, b&w of Chakotay (head and shoulders) with a jeweler's loupe in one eye, wearing a leather apron, bent over a partially disassembled Swiss cuckoo clock, perhaps with a miniature screwdriver in his hand.

He always struck me as a wannabe craftsman.
