If Janeway knew about the Dominion...

If Janeway knew the circumstances that were taking place in the AQ while Voyager was cruising through the DQ. Do you think she would have been in that great hurry to get back.

Being a StarFleet Capt I am sure that she wishes Voyager could be on the front line in the war against the Dominion, do you think the crew would have that sentiment, or would they actually happy to be out of harms way. Even at the expense of being stuck way out in the DQ??

I get the impression Federation citizens are patriotic in the extreme. They'd willingly risk a Dominion polaron torpedo to the face if it means they can protect their homeland.

The Maquis on the crew would absolutely return to the AQ and avenge all their slaughtered comrades at the hand of the Dominion.

So yes, I believe they'd trade in relative safety in the Delta Quadrant to fight in the war.

I've often wondered if Janeway or the crew were told of the war, outside of the EMH-2's reference to the Doctor. I imagine it'd be something either the Doctor or Janeway herself would keep under wraps for as long as possible in order to keep morale up.

Then again, Torres discovers the Maquis are no more only a few months later, so I suppose whether it was kept quiet or not, the letters from home would pretty much fill them in.

She did know. At least, she did after they resumed communications with the Alpha quadrant. Remember the episode where B'elanna was beating herself up with holographic Cardassians, torturning herself out of grief for the fallen Maquis comrades she learned had been killed by the Dominion-augmented Cardassians? Voyager knew about the Dominion war shortly after it started.

Yes, she knew and wanted to get home anyway. Besides, traveling thru the Delta Quadrant wasn't exactly a walk in the park.

You're right about B'Lenna knowing about the Marquis being killed off by the Cardissians "Extream Measures" and some unknow allies from the GQ, however I can't recall any mention in Voyager about the actual war against the Dominion.

Your points are well taken, I am also under the impression that the majority of the crew would have wanted to be back in the AQ under any circumstances...

In "Extreme Risk", B'Elanna goes rather suicidal because she has learned about the Maquis demise. Chakotay is aware of it, too - but he considers the Dominion a "hostile species", rather than addressing the complexity of how the enemy was portrayed in DS9. So it is possible that our VOY heroes (at least the shady Maquis folks) were given an abridged or even heavily censored or spun version of the events when Starfleet sent its reports - for reasons of keeping up the morale or something.

OTOH, Chakotay would have no particular reason to dignify the enemy with a "complex portrayal". They are simply the bad guys, the Gerries, Japs, Commies. If they get mischaracterized, so much the better - it might give them additional hurt before Chakotay's phasers hit them...

Actually in the first set of letters from home Chakotay got a letter from the woman who had recruited him into the Maquis that gave the fate of most of the members. He then went to Engineering and told B'Elanna. "Extreme Risk" was a follow-up to that.

If the war had gone badly, the Federation was destroyed, the Alpha Q become a fiefdom of the Dominion, I sometimes wonder if it wouldn't have been good to return to the planet of "The 37's."

They had a really positive thing going there; and Janeway & Co. could have added a lot, too. I liked "The 37's" as an episode, among other things, for it's optimistic outlook. They did well; very well.

They would have had to backtrack for over 10 years through Hirogen, Borg, Kazon and Vidiian space then...

I imagine Janeway would keep pushing on anyway. Earth may be dust, but it'd still be home to her.

(I'm fairly sure they could resurrect the Federation and oust the Dominion with some Modified Borg Nanoprobes tho ;))

I'm not implying that Janeway being aware of the conflict that was taking place in the AQ, and she happend upon a wormhole that would have led them right back to the AQ, that she would not have moved heaven and earth to get back and join the battle. I can't imagine Janeway saying lets just keep exploring the DQ for a while longer, we'll find another wormhole sooner or later.

As a Star Fleet Capt, she swore on oath to uphold the Federation it's principles, and to to Defend it against any and all hostile forces. I also am under the impression that all commissioned officers are under the same oath. Regular crewmen, and enlisted personall I don't think have to swear to that oath. I would think, however, they would also be inclined to get back to the AQ, and join the fight...

By the time the dominion war started, voyager was arriving at borg territory... Better to get home and fight with your comrades than face the hive on your own

Now its starting to sound like Battlestar Galactica, with the '37s' planet being Earth.

But really, from what we saw in "Fury" and the quick arrival of the Talaxians in "Homestead," there are apparently a lot of DQ shortcuts that Kes and Neelix were keeping to themselves (and we thought they were friends!)....

The domian was first know in Message in a bottle and the episode hunter (I think it was called) when the crew got letters from home was when B'Elanna and Chakotay knew the Marquis was all but dimished

I think Janeway coming home during the war would have helped greatly, she'd be bringing home Borg techonology. While I think the Dominion & Borg are evenly matched, I think Borg combined with Starfleet technology would have allowed us to hold our ground better.

Besides, can you imagine the Defiant class ships upgraded with Borg technology!!!!

nobody can trust borg technology. every other flickering light is a secret subspace transponder to alert the borg of theft.

I guess they'll use it against the Dominion and worry about the Borg later.

Plus, the Borg showed they're willing to wait, the Dominion wanted Odo home NOW!

Also, in the ep. where the lend the holographic technology goes wonky for the Hirogen, one of the holographic people is a Jem'Hadar. Tho that one smiles... ;)
