If Galaxy Quest got a TWOK-esque sequel

ScottDS

Captain
Captain
I've been toying with this idea recently. Lets say Galaxy Quest got a sequel movie and the creators decided to do a riff on Wrath of Khan.

Who could they get to play Khan (or a Khan-type nemesis for Tim Allen's Captain Taggart)? The idea IIRC was that the original GQ TV show aired in the late 70's/early 80's so would they get an actor who was big at that time to "reprise" the role?

And what about a David Marcus or Saavik character?

I could just imagine Guy serving aboard the NSEA Reliant. :)

Would Dr. Lazarus sacrifice himself to save the ship?

And so on and so forth.

There is an on-going comic book if you are interested in further adventures. Haven't read it though.

I'll have to check that out one day. I've heard about it; just never read it.

I think there are only two issues out so far, out of five. The trade paperback collection of the five issues is due out in March 2009.

TBH I am a little surprise there hasnt been a d2DVD sequel for this movie

I'm not sure a direct to DVD sequel with a cast including Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, and Tony Shalhoub would be economically feasible.

I think you would want someone who, like Ricardo Montalban, would have appeared on this small cultish TV show before he got his career-making role (i.e. Fantasy Island), and has since fallen on harder times. Right off the top of my head, I think David Hasselhoff would fit the bill -- and god knows he could chew scenery along with the best of the TOS cast.

Susan Lucci, as Queen of the Skeledroids, who has tried and failed on multiple occasions to conquer Earth. Now she's back, and she's pissed off.

Bring in Hasselhoff and Estrada as the admirals of her Skeledroid Deathfleets, with dueling eye-patches.

Since Daryll Mitchell is now a paraplegic, the conflict could center around having caused Tommy's paralysis.

William Shatner would be an obvious choice.

He could be the actor who portrays Taggart's nemesis on the TV show... who is an arrogant asshole in real life. He is then abducted by a group of evil aliens that believe him to be his TV counterpart...etc...etc...

Interesting idea. Shatner would be a decent choice. Erik Estrada if you really want to maintain the parallels to Ricardo Montalban. But my first thoughts immediately went to David Hasselhoff! Somehow, I can just see him as Tim Allen's arch-nemesis.

I've had an idea for Galaxy Quest II rattling around in my head for a few years now where the villains are the "younger, hipper" cast that the network brought in to replace Taggart's crew. (Less Star Trek, more Galactica 1980 with a little bit of Kevin Sorbo's vain idiocy on Andromeda thrown in for good measure.) This ends up causing a youth rebellion on the alien planet where they think the show is real.

I'd have Richard Karn play Tim Allen's nemesis. KARRRRRRRRRNNNNN!

We could also have Patricia Richardson as Nesmith's ex-wife, Jonathan Taylor Thomas as his intelligent but obnoxious son, and Debbe Dunning as the new yeoman on the Protector.

It's too bad Earl Hindman has passed....he could have been a new science officer, his face always obscured somewhat by his sensor viewer.
