Who the fuck have I threatened with violence, to get banned for threatening violence?

Is this because someone in the "Katie Price and Piers Morgan" thread said "that's a one bullet question" and I said "not if the bullet has enough grain to go through both"?

Cos I can't think of anything else I've posted today that could even remotely qualify as being about violence in any way...

Yeah if that was it, then that was flimsy indeed.

I would think that an established Dr. Who author would get more leeway than that in any case.

No, no reason why an established author should be treated differently.

OTOH, I can't think of a post where I've threatened violence today, even to imaginary or fictional characters in the most general terms, so flimsy...

The weird thing is I hadn't even got round to posting on LJ, let alone there, about how moronic behaviour by people in general today, and by BT this week, has made me want to hit people all afternoon...

ETA- I especially love the not being told what post is the "offensive" one that "threatens violence"...

Ah, fuck it, I'll log in with the wife's ID and have a look...

ETA again - Yep, that thread has disappeared so I guess that's it.

*That's* a "threat of violence"? Responding to someone else's joke? Fuck off - how about "I'll boot the mod responsible in the nuts should I run into him at a con" - that's what I call a fucking threat of violence!

Jesus fucking Christ. At least to get a warning here I actually had to properly swear and insult someone repeatedly and heavily...

GB is a poorly run joke. Always was, always will be regardless of the name they're using.

Well, if that's what they're calling a threat of violence, it makes the BBC's new much-vaunted extra careful guidelines look like a recipe for Caligula-style insanity by comparison

Oh God, if sarcy comments about Jordan were enough for a ban, I'd have been off Facebook for something I said last week. And I joked about the Location-Location-Location pair in the same 'pity they can't all go' style over there today.
Thanks for reminding me not to ever join that GB place...

Well, from my experience, they either over-react or under-react but it really is the most poorly modded forum I've ever been on. I used to hand out warnings and bans like candy on the old Interplay/Black Isle boards but that was because the rabid Fallout fanbois made it easy. I can't see a single thing about your comments that merits either.

And this is why I never got into that board (in any of its incarnations). I posted a little but it's just not...friendly. There's wonderful camaraderie here even if we get into arguments (usually).

OG was so thin-skinned it bordered on the absurd. I see GB is carrying on in that same tradition.

Haha, nice coincidence. Thought I'd found a new home too.

I was banned for doing the exact same thing you did in the exact same thread, I replied to the hypothetical question with "Piers, everytime" and am now banned for life. My opinion of the staff has plumetted from very high to very low in record timing.

I've seen instances of actual harsh bullying on there go completely ignored and I get banned for this? What shite. There is a clear difference between a joke about a hypothetical situation and an actual threat of violence.

I don't seem to have been banned for life - just 48 hours - but it does lead one to figure it isn't worth going back anyway, on account of having no clue what totally harmless line might suddenly get you booted again.

Especially considering, as you say, that real bullying goes on in flagrant violation of the CoC without anything being done.

ETA- oh, so does this mean they actually told you what you were banned for, rather than having to find out by investigation?

Nah, I had to email them and recieved their reply this morning stating how seriously they treat death threats and pointing at my Piers post.

Mad.

Least you can go back, I've lost a lot of friends which hasn't quite sunk in yet. Before this incident I always thought I got on well with the staff. This has really been very much out of the blue.

I'm pretty sure that I've seen people make jokey references to the death of a celebrity on there before and a mod would simply step in and tell them to stop. I'm not sure why their policy on this suddenly became so much stricter.

I've seen a poster genuinely claim that he wants another poster's mum to die in the cruelest way possible and he's still around. I'd hope that this is the mistake of some newbie Admin as opposed to the ones I liked because this is borderline insane.

There's nothing borderline about it - it's fucking loopy

To be honest the only reason I still post there is to annoy the drones who swoop down to attack anything resembling the tiniest shred of criticism or worry about next year's series.

I’m looking forward to seeing what Matt Smith does with the part (even though I found that audio clip a bit dodgy) but if others don’t feel the same then people should debate their views not try and bully them off the forums.

Colour me confused. So what exactly happened?
I regustered at GB when it started but only posted a few times. I've been staying away from there for fear of spoilers and because I already post at a number of boards and didn't have the time.

Whatever conflicts may have taken place on other boards needs to be handled elsewhere. I'm sorry you've had such a bad experience there, but we really do not want to bring them here.

Sorry.
