IDW writer talks to Comic Book Resources

Wow, that sounds awesome. I'm particularly intrigued by The Third Doctor's adventure with UNIT on an alien planet and The Tenth Doctor's adventure in museum...featuring him! Speaking of which, I love the Costume display art. Wonderful little touches on those two pages. :D

Third Doctor with UNIT on an alien planet?

Nope - the article doesn't say that. Dartmoor isn't a planet - it's a moor. So, pretty much sounds like Early-Jo Grant, possibly pre-Three Doctors.

The cover art is horrendous, but I'm okay with the interiors. And this shot is just awesome...

Oh, really? Oops! :o

I guess I just showed little I know about England geography.

And suddenly my interest in that story dropped a bit. ;)

I got an email from my comic shop in Britain. They told me that these comics are not for sale in Britain due to licensing issues. This also applied to the first limited series.

I really hoped comic suppliers stopped this nonsense since the days I had to get the Malibu DS9 comics from Germany because I couldn`t get them here!

One way or the other, I will get my hands on them.

But if the 3rd Doctor and UNIT go to Dartmoor, will they run into Tom Baker and the BBC filming Sontaran Experiment?

If she's in the UK, it's from gray-market imports. It's not "bullshit," IDW isn't allowed to distribute the Who comics worldwide. Panini holds the comic rights for Who in the UK, and they won't allow IDW to distribute their comics there, from what I understand.

The two companies are working together, though, as IDW is getting the artwork for Doctor Who Classics from Panini.

From a panel of the latest issue of Mark Millar's 1985 miniseries...

Just read the first issue of this. Surprisingly good! While I'm not certain the writer has Tennant's voice inflections down exactly, he definitely nailed Hartnell's. Well, I should actually say that he got the 1st Doctor's mannerisms down in a manner that imagines Hartnell wasn't ill or stammering at the time. While it's a very focused 1st Doctor, it never actually seems as if it's not Hartnell. It still feels exactly the same for me. Also, they touch on Ten's reflections of Susan, Ian, Barbara, his past clothes, and past enemies. Oh, and any good Who fan will realize who the mysterious enemy is by the end of the issue.

All in all, can't wait for the next one... :techman:

Great interview! I was wondering if she had ever watched the series before. I was curious as to what kind of research she did. I also like how she says it's one thing to copy a photograph of someone, but another to graphically "impersonate" their presence in a scene. That's a very smart way of looking at it... :techman:

Ha! Funnily enough, I thought the exact opposite - I felt like he'd absolutely nailed David Tennant's voice, but missed the First Doctor completely. Ah well - different strokes, I suppose. :)

Yeah, well as I said, I think it was more of an idealized version of the First Doctor, without all the little "mannerisms" Hartnell's health and age brought to the role... ;)
