IDW winding down Trek?

If you scroll down a bit, there is the Star Trek: Captain's Log trade paperback listed.

That will be really sad too. They had so much potential at the beginning. I would have loved to see the continuation of the Year Four/Year Five idea. More New Frontier and DS9 would be great too. Obviously every one wanted to see that Titan comic project as well. And I still say they could have had a hit with a TNG ongoing series that eventually covered the whole 8-10 year span of the Enterprise-E's career.

I recall them saying on Trekmovie.com ages ago (when the STXI adaptation was coming out) that they hoped to do a prequel to the next movie as they did with STXI. Whether it happens or not, who knows?

What I don't understand is why IDW never followed up on their biggest Trek success, Countdown. Why no further adventures of Captain Data's Enterprise-E? Why no Hobus aftermath stories? They brought back Data for Countdown, but it's left to a novel (The Needs of the Many) to tell us the how and why of his return. Meanwhile, we got a Doctor McCoy pre-TMP solo spin-off series??:wtf:

If IDW drops Trek, someone will come along and give it a stab in time for the next movie.

Plus with them mainly focusing on TOS stories. Would be nice to see some more TNG, DS9 and NF stories including Captain Data. I'm still holding out for Titan and Excelsior. I know there was just the one focused on Sulu but would love to see more.

If IDW does drop Trek, I'll be pretty disappointed, I've liked most of their stuff I've read. There's definitely been better stuff from other publishers, but I've still enjoyed it, and I do plan on picking up more of their stuff eventually. I really think they made a big mistake by not doing any kind of a regular monthly series. I think if they had taken the time to develop an ongoing series, with longer arcs that build off of each other it could have been really good. Plus it would have given readers more of an incentive to buy their stuff on a regular basis, so really it's as good of a business idea as a creative one.

I have to agree. That's how TNG The Space Between started, even through it was spread in all of the seasons. Plus like I have said in one of the older posts about IDW I stopped buying the issues alone cause I prefere to buy the trades instead. I recently bought the Captain's series but one issue I didn't get.

I don't think that is how the comic industry works. Number one issues sell far more than anything else. Then the sales numbers fall 30 - 40% for the second issue then by issues five to ten the numbers fall to what is considered 'regular' readership. I'm not sure IDW could survive publishing a regular series that only sold 3-5k an issue.

I think they are doing a lot of reshuffling with the trek license. The last time IDW said anything about trek, was that in 2011 they were going to focus solely on TOS and/or the Abrams relaunch.

If this is true, that sucks. Like other posters have said, IDW's Trek books were uneven in quality, though I thought the artwork for most were good, as were the story concepts. The execution was lacking at times. But in any event, I enjoyed the IDW works more than not. The idea of a Captain Data, post-Countdown series would've been sweet.

I would love to see the Captain Data series hinted at in Countdown. Even with 4-5 issue stories rather than an ongoing series it would be great to see an ongoing series in this manner.

One of the main reasons for the drop in sales in 2010 is due to the quality of the titles that have been released this year, very poor compared to the previous years. The McCoy series has been the only real highlight (Khan: Ruling in Hell looks good and I will read it once I have collected all 4 issues)

I would have been happy with (and bought) just about any kind of on-going, evolving, continuing series. I pick up an occasional issue but, as it stands now, IDW just isn't publishing any Trek material that I have any real interest in.

I only really enjoyed the stiff John Byrne did.

The only thing I know is coming out next year is the mini-series crossover with GI JOE/TRANFORMERS/GHOSTBUSTERS.

^Which isn't really a crossover per se, evidently, just each series independently dealing with a "zombie virus" outbreak. More like a themed anthology, as it were.

Well, hopefully Peter Venkmen and Optimus Prime aren't going to show up on the Enterprise bridge, but it's not just "let's all write about Zombies this month." The Zombie Virus is the same virus in all the minis, starting in IDW's ZOMBIE'S VS ROBOTS reality and jumping from universe to universe. So less than a crossover, but than a simple theme month (or three).

^Yes, but my point is that, as I understand it, you could read each one with no awareness of the others and it could probably work as a tale taking place purely in that universe.
