IDW to announce new DS9 comics?

From former IDW editor Andrew Steven Harris's blog:
...it looks like IDW will now finally pick up the Deep Space Nine license. Keep in mind, however, that like all projects not yet officially announced, this could all be the result of inside information gone frighteningly haywire, that there are infinite possible outcomes in an infinite universe, and as the saying goes, it’s not canon until it’s canon.

...IDW will most likely unveil its DS9 plans at the San Diego Comic-Con next week–so, if the universe unfolds as it should, you would begin seeing new DS9 comics by either the end of this year or early 2010.
Bear in mind that this is tentative and coming from someone who's not at IDW these days, and his blog entry includes some speculation about what IDW DS9 comics might be like.

But wouldn't be great if it's true?

Cool news about both Sulu and DS9 stuff, I look forward to hearing more about what they do.

IDW should totally sign up Marco.

"... and Paramount recently lost the encyclopaedic knowledge of Trek guru Paula Block..."!
Eeeek!
I wondered if that might have happened, she stopped getting her regular credit of thanks several comics back.

I wonder if there is any chance that the DS9-R would branch into the IDW comics? It would be the perfect medium to fill in some of the gap time before DRGIII's DS9 Typhon Pact novel. Maybe not all of the intervening years, but maybe a few...

Sounded to me like they were going to concentrate on the Worf years and the Dominion War.

^Hm. That's a difficult timeframe to fit stories into, since the continuity was so tight and many episodes spanned a considerable amount of time.

great news, i'll be onboard for these. i am hoping for some nice announcements regarding the trek line from IDW at comic con

Hmm, if this is true then that is awsome. I wonder if perhaps this would allow them to open up the Alien Spotlight to DS9 races, because I would love to see a Dominion one, or maybe ones about some of the one off GQ races.

Wonder who will fill this position? Who could fill this position? The only name that comes to my mind is Mike Okuda.

Unlikely. Block's position was not continuity-checker per se; her job was to serve as CBS's (and before that, Paramount's) official representative, approving products such as comics and novels based upon Star Trek. That encompassed checking some continuity as well, since it was her decision as CBS's approver of licensed materials that licensed stories should be consistent with the canon, but that wasn't inherently part of the job.

I hope the rumors of Block's loss are greatly exaggerated, though. First Marco, now Paula?

For years now, Paula has worked alongside John Van Citters at Paramount and then CBS Licensing. In fact, it was JVC who handled the approval for my very first novel, Ex Machina. And JVC is still around.

If IDW is going to plug continuity gaps, the best candidate for this strikes me as the three-month gap between "Call to Arms" and "A Time to Stand", which surely featured plenty of Dominion War action. (No station, though, which could be problematic.) There's also the gap between "Tears of the Prophets" and "Image in the Sand" of course, but without Sisko or a Dax there it would seem somewhat less attractive to me. Curiously, I don't think either of these gaps have ever really been mined by the fiction.

Awesome I only just thought about the Alien spotlights!

1. Bajor
2. jem'hadar
3. founders
4. vorta
5. cardassia
6. trill
7. prophets
8. breen

The first one hasn't, oddly, but the second has received some attention. "The Battle of Betazed" features Worf and O'Brien with the Defiant during the gap, and the stories "Foundlings" (in "Prophecy and Change") and "Mirror Eyes" ("Tales of the Dominion War") are set on the station during this period too. :)

Thats the best news I've heard in ages. Lets hope its confirmed. I think Dominion War stories would be the bestselling DS9 stories IDW released.

I kinda hope not... hard enough to find some of the novels...
*pictures self running around looking for comics and shudders*

I'd also add, Skreea, Hunters/Tosk, and Wadi. I would love to see more of those races.

It would be interesting to see what happend to the Skreea after their requested to settle on Bajor was refused. A followup after a few years on a different planet would be interesting, maybe they flurished in their new environment! could be great!
