IDW doing DS9!

8of5

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
IDW's December solicitations are out and include two DS9 titles! An Alien Spotlight featuring the Cardassians shortly after the Dominion War, and a DS9 series called Fool's Gold set earlier in the series.

AS:Cardassians, by Andy Schmidt:
Set just after the Dominion War, a black-ops band of Cardassian fundamentalists infiltrate a Starfleet Prison to assassinate the leader of the Dominion ... the founder responsible for 800 million Cardassian deaths. But if justice is done, will the fallout with Starfleet plunge the Cardassians back into war? Guest-starring classic DS9 characters Kira and Garak!
Fool's Gold #1, by the Tipton Brothers:
Captain Sisko and the crew of Deep Space Nine make their triumphant return to comics! When the station begins to be overrun by thieves, treasure-seekers, bounty-hunters and other assorted ne'er-do-wells, Major Kira and Constable Odo must find out why. Can they get to the bottom of it before the station's new visitors bring things to a boiling point?
I'm most curious about how the Cardassian issue will (or not) gel with the DS9 relaunch.

That cardassian issue sounds awesome. I hope it fits with the relaunch continuity.

I hope it fits with the relaunch, too. :) Hmmm, seeing as it is apparently "just after the Dominion War", that would probably be before Ananke Alpha is redesigned to hold the Founder, and I don't know if it was ever revealed where she was between DS9 and AA (during the time of her trial and its immediate aftermath). So it might fit (although Ekoor's plot in "Tales of the Dominion War" might cover similar ground to the comic- of course in all honesty there must be millions of Cardassians trying to kill her, but still, I hope it isn't too similar :))

However, while I for one am never going to turn down the opportunity for a fix of Cardassians (I still haven't got TNES, damn it...:scream:), I'm a little disappointed that the proposed Tholian and Betazoid issues of Alien Spotlight seem not to have materialized. I was looking forward to those...

That's great!! Tho I also hope the Cardassian one fits at least mostly with DS9 PF... tho after reading TF comics with those gagillion continuities, I might just be ready for anything!

Great news, this. I have been consistently enjoying the ST material from IDW, and am now looking ofrward to seeing what they can do with DSN.

^ It's almost mind-boggling. You just need to flow with it. Opposite the way some people are "flowing" with ST 11. :p

I think art with comics is key, sometimes if it's off it's distracting...

I'm glad DS9 is up for grabs now, but I wish they'd not done a story set during the series.

I honestly never want to see another story in any format set either during the five-year-mission, on the Enterprise-D, Sisko's DS9, or Janeway's Voyager. We've seen all this thousands of times. Let's move on to other things.

Well, there will always be some people who prefer stories set after the series and some who prefer stories set during the series. Since the novels have made post-series stories pretty much their niche, I'm not surprised that the comics are going for a different niche.

I don't mind when the series take place, so long as the story is good, thoughtful, and lives up to Gene Roddenberry's ideals.

It still weirds me out when people say this. I can think of no ideals of Gene Roddenberry's that Gene Roddenberry lived up to.

But whatever.

Fantastic news!!!!!! I've been generally impressed by IDW's work so far, and would love to see what they do with my favorite ST incarnation!

Glad to see that the storyline for the DS9 seris was finally released. Just now hopefully IDW can get their hands on VGR and ENT eventually.

I honestly don't mind when the stories are set, long as its good material to read even if they might hint to something from the show itself along those lines.

I'm also interested in seeing whats going to go on in the Cardassian Spotlight. I wonder if this will be set after Bajor is in the Federation, cause it would be interesting to finally see a comic with Kira in her captain's uniform.

Well, there was the whole "making money" thing. He seemed to be pretty-much down with that.

I agree with you, though, this whole "Roddenberry's Dream" nonsense got real old a real long time ago.
