Idols Finale 2010

Congratulations to Lee De Wyze. To be honest, I haven't been watching this season, not being impressed by the auditioners. Also, I've been watching the final season of LOST.

I'm watching the season finale, though I already know who the winner is. It's good to see so many guests and performers. Also being highlighted is Simon's departure from the show. It won't be the same without him. Paula Abdul. William Hung. Previous winners Kellie Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, Fantasia Barrino, Kris Allen. Was David Cook present?

If Simon isn't coming back next season...the show should call it quits. The only time I watched from beginning to end were with Taylor Hicks, Fantasia & David Cook.

I didn't see tonight so I don't know if he(Cook) was there or not.

I thought Crystal really out-sang Lee in the final round, but honestly I don't dig the coffee house I sing Melissa Etheridge and I feel showering is overrated vibe. Lee's got a great tone to his voice, but he also seems to go a bit off key too often. Definitely not the best season of Idol, but I think Lee was the best of a bad situation.

Apparently Cook had a cancer benefit already booked somewhere else and couldn't make it to the finale. Nice to see Kelly back, what with the way she usually distances herself from Idol these days.

Yeah...I've liked Lee best since the top 10, I did like Casey at first but Lee just pulled it out after that. I am a little surprised he actually won, though, after last night.

I've found his other two albums on iTunes as well, and I wish he'd had a chance to perform one or two of those songs on the show, they're really kind of unique and would have better show cased his style. He seemed like a re-hash of David Cook or Kris Allen with the pop-rock gravelly voice on Idol, but he's more than that. I hope his first official album after Idol shows his vocals better.

Lee's okay, Crystal's far more talented, but Lee can be molded into the pop/rock clay form the producers are looking for. She'll end up getting a recording contract from someone anyway, so congrats to Lee, and if Ellen's back next year I'll watch. If NPH is the new Judge for next year, I'll watch. Otherwise, I'll pass.

I think Crystal should've won. She was better than everyone all season and outperformed Lee on Tuesday night. I got a feeling that Lee won mainly because of the voting base. Adam Lambert speculated once that a lot of voters are tween girls and their moms, and I think he was on to something, so I could see why guys they consider cute and nice might go far or win. It definitely kept Tim Urban in the competition way longer than necessary.

Overall, I thought the finale was pretty good. The best finale I've seen thus far. Janet Jackson looked amazing, and the Brett Michaels duet with Casey was awesome. Also liked Hall and Oates, Michael McDonald, and Chicago.

I wish David Cook could've made it but it was great seeing most of the Idol winners come back and they all sounded good. Paula and Simon were sitting there like proud parents and in a way they are, they helped launch a lot of careers. Some skyrocketed, others plateaued, fizzled, or haven't struck gold yet, but they had all become stars, thanks in large part to the AI process.

Sigh. For the second year in a row, America chose a bland, unthreatening nice guy over a more talented and distinctive performer. Crystal was a pro who nailed every song from the minute she opened her mouth, and seemed to have a livelier personality as well. Lee struck me as a talented amateur who sometimes seemed in over his head.

But I guess an ordinary guy with an "aw-shucks" demeanor is more appealing to Middle America than a bohemian hippy chick with dreadlocks, tattoos, and a flawless voice.

If American Idol had been around in the fifties, Pat Boone would surely have beaten Elvis . . . .
