These two ideas came to me a few weeks ago.
Currently, We have Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals for first, second and third place finishing, respectively .
a) Why don't we have a medal for the fourth place. It could be a Copper Medal. This could encourage more competition and give more athletes a chance to win something.
Losing semi finalists athletes and teams often have a third place playoff. If a loser from the final can get a silver medal, why can't the losing side in the third place playoff get a medal as an acknowledge for making it all the way to the semi final.
b) Let's say that the winning Gold medalist breaks a World or Olympics record during the finals, then his, her or them gold medal should be upgraded to a Platinum Medal and that should be tallied up in a separate category next to the Gold Medal.. In that way, those watching the Olympics and World games, can see how many Olympics and World records were broken during the games by seeing the medal table.
For example , Micheal Phelps who have won so many gold medals over the years, has also broken several records but we never know that unless someone mentions it or we read about in Wikipedia.
That would also encourage more competition as well.
Those are my two ideas. If you got any new ideas about sports, feel free to post them here.
