So it's established on "Picard" that when Voyager crippled the Collective in "Endgame," many if not most of the drones were freed from the Collective. This leaves endless possibilities for how an "XB" might serve as a character, either on a starshipor as a character the ship might encounter.

A few ideas:
  • Doctor - After doing freed from the Collective, they sought redemption by using their Borg knowledge to heal
  • Engineer- A former drones got to be familiar with technology. Maybe they'll even make scrap art out of technology from wrecked Borg vessels.
  • Selling their (enhanced) body- Left in the Delta or Gamma Quadrant when Voyager crippled the Collective, this newly liberated drone had to resort to taking whatever odd and dangerous jobs where a cyborg might be useful (like acting as a mercenary, or a guinea pig for some experiments), and sometimes even selling some of their own Borg implants to survive.
  • Cult Leader- This person uses their Borg abilities for nefarious purposes, assimilating people into their own small Collective
  • Manipulated by a Villain- Assimilated as a child, this person emerges from the Collective confused and vulnerable. Some nefarious character is the first to find them, and grooms them to be am evil henchman.
  • Lone Scientist living in a Cube: Good, evil or neutral, this person is an eccentric scientist floating along in the defunct cube on which they were once a drone. Naturally, he is she has made some adjustments to the place.
  • Vorta- A Vorta was assimilated, an immediately replaced with a new clone, as is done whenever a Vorta dies. Now un-assimilated, but already replaced, this Vorta has to learn to live for themselves, for the first time in any life.
  • Trill symbiont- Was kept hooked into a Borg cube, with the cube serving as it's host. Now free, this Trill must navigate their first host that is a large metal cube instead if a humanoid body
  • Ocampa - Granted unnatural long life (for an Ocampa) by their Borg implants, they must now deal with everyone they knew back on Ocampa (or Susperia's Array) being dead, and having missed generations of their society's history.
  • Sikarian - Now can explore new pleasurable experiences with their new fancy Borg appendages.
  • El Aurian Borg Encyclopedia- El Aurians (Guinan's species) were among the first raves assimilated by the Borg. El Auriabs have naturally long lifespans, living centuries. This individual was one if the first ever assimilated, and knows more about the history of the Borg--and by extention the galaxy--than almost anyone.
