Idea for a new spinoff (new movie spoiler)

With Star Trek XI rejuvenating Trek, there are several treads talking of a possible return to television. If so, I would propose a serie based on the far future, somewhere in the lines of Captain Braxton's time, extending the reach to multiple galaxies and the direct availability of time travel for occasional cameos and insertions in canon to correct mistakes previously done.

I am not generally found of time travel just because nothing ever happens (timelines are always reconcilled within continuity somehow) but the new movie shows it can be done any way we want. What do you think?

Why do so many ideas for a new Trek series revolve around setting it in another time frame (in most cases the far future)? I never had the impression that the time frame has such a great bearing on what stories the series can tell. Any Star Trek series is set in a (fictional) future by default. It doesn't make a difference to me if it's the 22nd, 23rd, 24th or 25th century.

I would like to see one where the Federation has expanded to include the Klingon and Roman empires, as well as the Cardassians and Ferengi. It would be based on a galaxy-wide conflict with three-way tension between the expanded Federation, The Dominion, and The Borg.

Why not just to another show similar to TNG but with a storyline more like DS9. A.K.A. on a ship but based in a war.

Why dont you just cut the middle man and just call it TIME TREK. ?

The next series needs to be something other than yet another crew on yet another ship. DS9 was a perfect example of how to create a new series. It changed the setting, the political and social dynamics, and the motivations of the characters from what was done before. I'm not sure what would be best but I don't think the timeframe makes a big difference.

I never understood how telling stories in the 22nd or 23rd centuries was "looking back." Huh? Did I fall asleep for 200 years? That's still the future!

If they wanted to create a whole new series not based on the reboot then why can't the timeframe be ambiguous?

A colony or a city? Gives me an idea of an Atlantis concept, though without the huge ocean and a civilian leader, or Federation representative, to freshen up the command mix.

Though... a spin off of Scotty and Keesner on Delta Vega. That'd work for me. Spaced in Space.

A holiday resort on Risa, lead by Captain Bort and his crew of match makers.

They could call it, The Love Bort.
