Idea for a future line of Superman action figures

I was wondering this the other day.

With all the tech that is there now, action figures are getting pretty good when it comes to likenesses and sculpts. Also, DC Direct has done some awesome things with their superhero action figures when it comes to articulation and whatnot.

I was wondering, would people be interested in a line that features the different actors who played Superman in their respective costumes? Like have a figure of Chris Reeve as Superman or George Reeves as Superman, Dean Cain and so on?

Could a line like this from DC Direct fly? Like most DC Direct, I bet it could only be found in comic shops or online, so there wouldn't need to have a huge production run.

I guess this could also be applied to other actors-as-DC superheroes such as Batman.

I dunno. Good idea or bad one?

I think it would be great. Ofcourse getting all of them would be costly but worth it if you are a Superman fan.

It is a good idea.

I would be interested if Hot Toys got on board. DC Direct's quality is far too inconsistent for my taste. Hot Toys, on the other hand are the absolute gods of collectibles right now.

Would the set include a Nicholas Cage Superman figure? After all, the kids would need something for the good Supermen to beat up.

DC Direct has already put out collectible statues of Christopher Reeve as Superman and Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman, not to mention various SMALLVILLE action figures featuring the likenesses of the actors. So these things are possible.

The complication, of course, is that you need to secure the permission of the actors involved (or their estates), which makes it a little more tricky.

The Smallville and Superman Returns figures were the ones that gave me the initial idea. I wonder how hard it would be to get the likeness. It seems that most of the previous actors who played the role had a positive experience, which would suggest they (or their estates) would at least be willing to hear the idea out.

I have long wanted DC Direct to do this, and as Greg says, statues of Reeve-as-Superman and Lynda Carter-as-WW have been done, so it's theoretically possible. It would be fun to have black-and-white variants of the George Reeves and Kirk Alyn figures, too.

But why stop at Superman? There could also be Adam West, Michael Keaton, etc., Batman figures, and even Cesar Romero/Jack Nicholson/Heath Ledger Joker ones (frankly, I won't be satisfied until I've got a Tom Tyler and a Jackson Bostwick Captain Marvel figure)...

Haha...That would be cool. They can be chase figures.

Oh, I agree. Although, there might be a bit of a wait since the toy company is still pushing The Dark Knight toy line with fairly decent likenesses of Heath Ledger and Christian Bale (at least with the 6 inch versions).

This is true. I recently started collecting (some) Hot Toys. When I misremembered them doing Spider-Man and other subjects which turned out to be Medicom, I was sorely disappointed by the quality of sculpt, paint, soft goods, etc. Very glad I did not drop the cash on Medicom's stuff. Hot Toys really is where it's at for quality and innovative technique.
