Yep, all of this was said in the movie.
As for where they came from BEFORE that, who knows? My guess is that it was hundreds or thousands of years ago.
I don't think that's 100% true, mostly because I remember reading an article years back with D&E stating that they made ID4 for a quick popcorn summer flick to "earn" enough money for what they would think was needed for Stargate 2 & 3.
Then again, those guys keep changing their story about their Stargate sequels, so who knows.
I'm pretty sure there's some ID4 books...I think they are all set prior to the film though, one I know of for sure is about Brent Spiner's character Dr. Oaken (I am not looking up the proper spelling) and Area 51. I don't know how deeply they could delve into the aliens in a prequel.
There was one novel set during and after (mostly after), but set in the Middle East. "War in the Desert" if I recall correctly.

And I always find it mazing that people still think that is true!
There was also an issue 0 by Marvel comics showing events from Roswell forward. Not much about the aliens themselves that I recall, aside from seeing Dennis Quaid's character's abduction and Dr. Okun not learning much over his tenure at Area 51.
They had to have come from somewhere at some point though, they didnt evolve in the ship. It would be interesting to know where they originated from.
I like to think most of their technology on their hulking, moon sized mothership was wrecked and they were running away from a bigger, galaxy threatening enemy, hence their poor tactics and silly gaps in their technology.
