"I'd prefer a dose of common sense"

Kirk: "All I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by. You could feel the wind at your back in those days. Sounds of the sea beneath you. And even if you take away the wind and the water, it's still the same. The ship is yours. You can feel her. And the stars are still there, Bones."

Scotty: "Do you mind a little advice? Starfleet captains are like children. They want everything right now and they want it their way. But the secret is to give them only what they need, not what they want."

Picard: "Let's make sure history never forgets the name, Enterprise."

Picard: "The first vessel that I served on as captain was called the Stargazer. It was an overworked, underpowered vessel, always on the verge of flying apart at the seams. In every measurable sense, my Enterprise is far superior. But there are times when I would give almost anything... to command the Stargazer again."

I've always loved this quote. Ultimate Computer - specifically this quote - was the first time I ever realized that there was more to Star Trek than simply phasers and space ships.

When did Kirk say that? I know Picard did, in "Yesterday's Enterprise," but if Kirk ever said that line, I can't recall it.
You're right -- typo on my part, sorry. I've corrected it.

Yeah, one of my favorites from Kirk too. He had a few of them like this that added a real quality dimension to the show, a reminder of lasting substance.

.
Terrell: Sir, I demand...
Khan: You are in a position to demand *nothing*. I, on the other hand, am in a position to *grant* nothing.
Chekov: You lie! On Ceti Alpha Five there was life! A fair chance...

Khan:THIS IS CETI ALPHA FIVE! Ceti Alpha Six exploded six months after we were left here. The shock shifted the orbit of this planet and everything was laid waste. 'Admiral' Kirk never bothered to check on our progress. It was only the fact of my genetically-engineered intellect that allowed us to survive. On Earth, two hundred years ago, I was a prince with power over millions...

In terms of TOS humor

Kirk: "I can't believe I kissed you"
Spock: "Are you sure it isn't time for a colorful metaphor?"
McCoy: "That green blooded son of a bitch, its his revenge for all those arguments he lost!"
Scotty:"Up yer shaft!"
Chekov: "Inwented by a little old lady from Leningrad"

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0015826/Gul Dukat: A true victory is to make your enemy see they were wrong to oppose you in the first place. To force them to acknowledge your greatness.
Weyoun: Then you kill them?
Gul Dukat: ...Only if it's necessary.

I think quote is indicative of Cardassians as a culture. Even Garak shows some of this attitude in his discussions with Bashir. Garak wants to convert the Doctor to his way of thinking.

I agree, their militant culture seems even to be focused more on showing others how strong they are rather than actual defense or expansion. It's more about posturing than about actual superiority. Interesting people...

O'Brien: I'm no angel. But I try to live every day as the best human being I know how to be.

Sisko: A Starfleet officer. That's what I am. And that's what I'll always be.

Archer: When I was in my early twenties on a trip to east Africa, I saw a gazelle giving birth. It was truly amazing. Within minutes the baby was standing up. Standing up on its own. A few more minutes and it was walking, and before I knew it was running alongside its mother, moving away with the herd. Humans aren't like that, ambassador. We may come from the same planet as those gazelles, but we're pretty much helpless when we're born. It takes us months before we're able to crawl, almost a full years before we can walk...

Kirk, "Let's see what's out there"

I'm fairly sure that's only been uttered by Picard.
