Iconic star?

So, Digital Spy reports the official DW Twitter feed as saying an "iconic star" will be revealed as cast in season 7 at midnight...

http://www.digitalspy.com/british-t...-star-casting-to-be-revealed-at-midnight.html

Given we've already got Diana Rigg, how can they top Emma fucking Peel for iconography?

And do they really think we'll be excited about the possibility of <insert actual huge wish-fulfillment star name here> when last time they pulled this shit it turned out to be Bill Bailey...?

I was thinking a Past Doctor. Or maybe someone from another SF series. Patrick Stewart would be nice...

De Niro as a pre-Delgado Master? More seriously, someone Hollywood and Oscar as the guest star in the Christmas special... it almost happened with Dennis Hopper.

It's a shame it'll be announced in a few hours (presumably because they *finally* start shooting the Xmas Special this week) because I'd have enjoyed watching the ever-increasingly wild specualtion build up.

I still remember Brian Cox and Michael Gambon being described as "Big Hollywood Stars" before their names were announced; when they're really strong British character actors who've appeared in some major Hollywood Blockbusters.

It's not even worth speculating when there's only an hour to go, but I'd guess it's only Stephen Fry

Meh, it's Richard E Grant.

Big fucking deal, he was the second worst of the Moff's Comic Relief Doctors back in the day.

Yep, not really big enough to be worth a pre-announcement. As Withnail cast goes, I'd sooner have Richard Griffiths.

Depends - is it an original character, or is Eleven about to meet "Scream of the Shalka" Unbound-Nine this Xmas? THAT'D be a nice mystery to kick off the 50th Anniversary with - a Ninth Doctor from a universe where the Time Lords WON the Great Time War...

Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Richard E. Grant.

The only "iconic" thing about him is that he's played a fake Doctor twice.

Looking through IMDB I think the only thing I've seen him in is Spice World. I really need to see Withnail and I sometime.

I look forward to nearly five months of "What if he's playing The Master/An Evil 9th Doctor from an alternate universe?"

Alan Rickman as the Master could've been really cool.

Richard E. Grant? His Shalka Doctor was cool
