I was stabbed 16 times

Holy shit! I've known a few people who have been assaulted, but nothing like this. Good to hear they caught the bastards. Bes strong, and just think about how good it will feel to testify against them in court. Quick healing to you!

Holy shit man. Take this fucker for all he's got in court, if you can.

I'm guessing that the petty thieves have nothing to take. Except their freedom, which hopefully will happen.

If they make money for jobs in prison like here in the U.S., these fuckers should see every last penny of it go to the victim. Even if it never offsets half hte medical bills, it's just the right thing to do.

The victim's friend was also punched in the face.
I can almost imagine your mate telling the reporters "Nevermind him getting stabbed, I got punched in the face!"

[..] but on another note, it wasn't your van, why the hell did you get involved? especially not knowing if they were carrying weapons, there are people in this country carrying guns!!!!

Excuse me? It's unfortunate what happened to the TS, but the fact that he stood up is evidence of his character and personality. I can only hope that I would do the same in such a situation. You, however, know beforehand you would simply stand by and do nothing, simply because you're afraid?

If they were assaulting someone i'd step in but over a van? that might not have anything in it? and there's a chance of getting stabbed or shot over it? no thanks, i'll stay out of it and be on my way.

I value my life over the contents of some strangers van.

The bright side of this is that since he lives in the UK, his medical bills will be negligible (at least by my understanding). It's not much of a comfort when get stabbed repeatedly, but you got to look at the silver lining (besides the whole "surviving a stabbing" bit).

Hope you get better soon! Glad the buggers were caught quickly and I hope they spend some serious time in prison, though with the criminal justice system here, who knows...

Do they have victim of crimes payments in Britain?

Yes, stabbings I think are in the 4 to 5 figure region I believe. Don't know if it scales with the number of puncture wounds or if it's tariffed by severity/other measure. Someone else can provide details, I'm sure.

Trying to one-up Squiggy? :D

What's next, I wonder?!

*shrug* I wouldn't have got involved either so I can get Tachy's POV on this.. I value my life more than someone else's property and the risks, as proven by this thread, are high enough to be taken seriously. There's a reason insurance exists.

Do get well!

I don't even know how to say 'get well' after something this horrible happening!

But: do get well!

Holy Toledo! I'm glad you're alive and not too badly hurt, gwud.

It was great of you and your friend to try to help out a stranger. I'm sorry you had to get hurt over it, though. I hope you have a smooth recovery.

Holy shit! You're a tough motherfucker, man. Get well, soon, and then get even.

And he'll have a posse of BBSers ready to back him up.
Fuckin' A!

He doesn't have medical bills.

Erm, should they not be charged with attempted murder? I think stabbing someone that many times is clear evidence they were trying to kill. :cardie:

I think that's what "with intent" means.

Correct. 'Attempted Murder' requires actual intent to kill - difficult to prove. 'Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent' requires intent to commit grievous bodily harm or kill (ie, the same intent as 'murder' but without being successful in actually killing someone. Bizarrely, 'attempted murder' has a higher level of proof of intent than actual 'murder'). The wounds themselves, especially their number, are pretty much proof of this. It's not a light charge - GBH w/intent carries a potential penalty of life imprisonment.

Yup, you're about right. Victim Support will take him through this process, they are absolutely billiant and I'd urge the OP or indeed anyone who has been a victim of crime to use their support to the utmost. And restitution payments are definitely on the cards with convictions for ABH/GBH offences.

Indeed. Pick up a phone and dial 999, get licence plate, descriptions, direction of travel. I would generally not advise anyone to get invovled in such a situation. Having said that, I commend the OP on his remarkable community spirit and heroism, if more people had his attitude, Britain would be a much improved place. :techman::techman:

Thanks everyone. I'm on my iPhone is hospital so can't actually keep up with the thread, plus I've had lots of painkills so you're not exactly catching me at my best!

Had I l own they were going to do that I would have left them be, but I just expected them to run off. I know that the police can't be everywhere and I do think it would be a sad state of affairs if people didn't get involved when needed.

Fortunately in the UK, medical care is free at time of use so it's not costing me anything -which is lucky as the police have my clothes and my wallet! :)

A couple of the nurses have told me to apply for criminal injuries compensation but at the moment I'm just focusing on not rolling over onto my newly stitched up ear and neck!

Then I misunderstood you, and wholly agree. A van is only some material property after all, which is even insured most of the time. However, if someone were to be personally assaulted, I would like to think I'd step in, even if the person had a gun.

Get well soon! Focus on your own health as much as possible just now.

Also, you will from now on always have the most impressive story at dinner parties.

Take it easy then. Go to sleep or something. Hopefully you'll feel even better in the morning. :)

And always remember, scars are hot. ;)
