I Want To Be A Crazy Cat Lady

So you guys remember how I didn't know much about cats and looked to you before deciding to get our first one? I want like ten more now. It makes me so sad when I see how many cats out there need homes. There are also a lot of feral cats here.

We recently moved to an apartment on the ground floor and there's this cat that comes by and stares at us through the window, meowing for food. He's clearly someone else's outdoor cat as he's fat and not scared of humans. But I totally want to feed him and take him because he's so cute. It breaks my heart when he just sits there and meows!

I've decided that I want ten "children" and they can be split up between human babies and kitties. But I totally would be happy surrounded by lots of kitties! Maybe I just need to be around a horrible cat to remind myself that we got lucky with ours ...

I'm the same about wanting to help every cat I see. We feed the strays/ferals... how can you resist when you see a skinny, mangy looking cat starving to death? It's impossible. Then they started showing up with kittens. One of them was really sick, so we caught him and took him to a vet... didn't make it. Wish we could afford to fix them all, give them their shots and re-release them... but it's impossible. Can hardly afford all the canned food we buy for them. Hard to know what the right thing to do is in that situation.

Thing is, cats aren't allowed in my building... so I can't even bring them inside.

That ok, I think I might end up being that weird neighbor with all the Chihuahuas, I have three now, and may get another one, a puppy.

I know how you feel. My neighborhood has a lot of outdoor cats, some strays, some not. Some of them are so hard to resist. But I'm happy having just my two. And as much as they've clawed the upholstered furniture, the house looks like it belongs to a crazy cat lady anyway.

My cats are now 13, 8 and 5 years old. I miss having a kitten. I would love to have another kitten but Miss Chicken is to crotchedy to put up with a kitten. My 8 year cat (Spider) loves playing with kittens but I think my 5 year old (Georgy) would be violent towards a kitten, so I guess I won't be getting another cat for any a year.

We may eventually get another cat. I think our cat could like it, but it's really difficult to know because all animals have such different personalities. He interacted with my in-laws' cats when he was young, but it was mostly them putting up with him ambushing them all the time and trying to play. He was a kitten and they are elderly cats so it wasn't the best match up, but they still all got along after they got to know each other.

They are usually fine with kittens, they just ignore them if they don't like them. I am one cat over the limit for my area already.. if I had to move to the country (which I would never ever want to do) I would console myself by getting a whole lot more cats.

I have decided that one needs a minimum of six cats to even have a light chance of qualifying for Crazy Cat Lady status, so I am only half there.

my dad used to have a feral cat he fed. She started showing up with kittens. He stared trapping the kittens and taking them in to be adopted. Eventually she got sick and he trapped her and took her in to be put down :(

I am becoming more and more pleasantly surprised by the number of Crazy Cat Couples that I am meeting. I don't know if it is a function of condo/apartment culture or not, but I'm glad its happening!

Don't crazy cat ladies tend to be single?

You just gotta find the right man. Mr Teacake had no opinion of cats when he met me, now he is a crazy cat dude. He would happily have tons more cats.
Oh that's not what I meant.

I should have put an emphasis on the "crazy" part.

Because I myself would have a few bazillion cats running around--well maybe four or five.

Well I don't care if I'm called crazy, or whatever. I know I'm eccentric.

My ex wife was quite the cat lady..6 indoor cats, 2 outdoor cats.. every move I made was watched... silently by at least 2 pairs of enormous eyes..

too many cats...

2 would be fine..

I just find cats so hilarious. I like any kind of cat which is why I agreed to take the crabby awful one named after me. I like cats, the species. I can't say the same about dogs, I may like some individual dogs just fine but I don't like dogs in general.

I would happily have a lot more cats. I used to know a woman on a forum who had 30 indoor cats. There was a litter box in every room. In Australia we aren't as into the indoor cats as in the US, most people let them come and go, as mine do. If you are going strictly indoor the issues are different. I do know a guy (in the US) who has about 12 indoor cats.

I wish I could have more than one cat. If I had room for three, I would have adopted Rory's sisters, too. They were just as adorable as he is. I hope they got adopted, too. :(

I guess you can't be a crazy cat lady with just one kitten. Rory sometimes drives me crazy, though, does that count?
