I WANT MY STAR TREK BACK!!!!

No, not really.

There's a movie coming out in a little under a year. That should be more than sufficient for the foreseeable future. I hope it does well.

Traditional "Star Trek" is dead, and about to be buried.

If they do a couple of good films and do a spinoff either continuing the new films or something based on it then yes...otherwise no unless its bringing Enterprise back but doing it right this time

I'm still waiting for badborg to produce some sort of certification that he owns Star Trek, and the police report where he documented its theft. ;)

You know, I have this mental image of the "OJ Theft Incident" repeated, with this fella going into PPC with a Posse of armed thugs... :rommie:

If it's going to be the way it was when it went off the air, no. I can do without Buck Rogers knockoffs posing as Star Trek.

I would like good Star Trek back, but that doesn't seem likely to happen.

Oh, c'mon... Buck Rogers wasn't THAT bad...

Then again, I was going through puberty at the time and Erin Gray in that skintight jumpsuit...

She could make anyone forget about Twiki!

I think another series set during TNG's run would be good. It would be nice to see what other ships were doing while the flagship was exploring and making nice with lots of aliens.

It depends on how the movie does. If it does well you will not see another TNG-like series. They will make a new TOS-like series and run with it.

If the movie flops they may go back to TNG/DS9/Voy for the next series.

There are those who only prefer the first 16 TOS as Pure Roddenberry Trek (tm).

Who the Hell are these people? Feel free to name names if they're posters here, I'll take the heat for it if the mods say "post, not poster".

There are those who think that GR's Trek is the only Trek, despite the first two years of TNG sucking hard.

The God Thing

Of course there are those who call for Berman's head on a pike, but give him no credit for DS9.

I think that's cooled over the years. Not that it's relevant anymore.

There are those who HATED DS9 because it was too dark and wanted TNG back.

Okay.

There are those who HATED Bennett/Meyer Trek.

Besides Warped9 and The God Thing?

The are those who HATED anything with Brannon Braga's name on it and credit all the episodes he co-wrote solely to Moore, without acknowledging the FACT that Moore ALSO killed Kirk in Generations.

Agree with you there.

Hell there are those who blame Braga for things he didn't even write.

Agree with you there. I remember the blaming for "B&B" on NEM.

Abrams had high praise from everyone here for the shows Alias and Lost UNTIL he asked Paramount to let him do a Star Trek film and now he sucks, too??

Where the Hell are you getting this from? Name names. Once again, I'll take the heat if the mod says no. Warn and friendly me, not number6.

Make up your minds people.

Are these people you're talking about even the same people? There's more than one person on this board and not everyone thinks alike.

And how many of these people are there?

I am, of course, speaking in very general terms, though the Bennett/Meyer thing rears its head frequently in the Movies section and I do believe there is some discussion in the Trek XI forum. There's some great Abrams bashing going on there regularly. There's a nice bit of DS9 trashing going on in the VOY forum as we speak, but my comments about DS9 are specifically referring to those convention years in the 90s when the cast of TNG would continually fuel the fires of discontent over "Deep Sleep Nine."

In fact, I've been seeing this off and on since I started lurking on this BBS. I didn't realise how much Star Trek sucked until I came here!!

I would rather refrain from naming named here, because I do want to respect their right to their opinion. PM me if you really need to know.

My point to all of this is that what is or isn't "MY" Star Trek is a varied muddled mess. There is no way anyone can make Trek without pissing off some part of the fan base. I am sure that even if we could get a time machine and go back and alter history so that GR could go back and produce the last two years of the five year mission, there would be those who would complain that he really fouled that up.

I am convinced that there is no unified collective of fans who know what they want, only what they don't want. And that gives anyone making Trek in the here and now a very limited pallette to work from. It is truly a thankless task for anyone.

Surely you've noticed that Berman gets no credit for the quality of DS9 and all the blame for every bad thing that's happened in the Trek world since 1986. Surely there is as much that is justified as there is unjustified.

I am grateful to get 18 solid years of Star Trek. I don't know the producers personally, but if I ever met them, I would buy them a drink and tell them that I enjoyed all their efforts, even if I didn't like all the shows.

OH MY GOD! Ive only just seen the cast list for the new movie and I cant believe who they're using! this film is gunna blow! They're using Zachary Quinto as Spock, everytime I see him i'll just end up thinking about evil Sylar in 'Heroes'.
John Cho as Sulu? i'll end up thinking about his dopey character from American Pie.
Simon Pegg as Scotty? he's an hilarious comedian, how the heck can someone like Pegg pull off a serious character like Scotty.

Where have you been?

There are some primarily comedic actors who have played more serious roles who have done quite well. It can be easier for a comedic actor to play serious than vice versa.

Look at Brent Spiner.... He played a recurring character on Night Court numerous times, and he played Data.

I didn't think Scotty was THAT serious of the character. He often had some very comedic elements.

Actors DO play other characters. If they're good actors, they're capable of making you suspend your disbelief and not let the fact they happened to play other characters distract you from their current performance. Do you really think these actors are so bad that all you'll be able to think of are some other characters you've seen them play?
