I wanna go to a baseball game!

^
Yup. And unfortunately Pawlenty refuses to budge on the issue. Though he's done next year, the Vikings lease is up in 2011. So there is a really small window.

I'm not following. What does Pawlenty have to do with this? Is he trying to block the Vikings from building a new stadium on the Metrodome site? Can he do that?
Well, as it know stands the proposed stadium would be in the $8-900 billion range. The Wilfs have said they'd pay up to $350 of that (Or a third + naming rights.) The rest of the money would have to come from the state. There are various tax "plans" being discussed in the legislature. Pawlenty has said he'd veto any/all that were to pass as he refuses to raise the taxes for it.

There are also a few other funding ideas being thrown around that wouldn't involve raising taxes specifically, but would still need executive approval. He's pretty much said he's against those as well. I don't really know all the specifics, however, as I don't live there any more and really don't have any desire to stay current on Minnesota state politics.

^ The Vikings could always negotiate a temporary extension to their lease (after Pawlenty buggers off) while they figure out what to do.

It's what the Marlins are going to do - their lease at Dolphin Stadium runs out in '10 but they have to stay there temporarily for one more year while they (FINALLY!) get their new ballpark built.

And speaking of which, the new Marlins ballpark is going to fucking RAWK. :techman:

Sticking to the baseball theme, I was thinking about possibly heading out to the Dodgers' and White Sox's new Camelback Ranch spring training facility in Glendale, Arizona. It's nice to have spring training for the Dodgers relatively nearby instead of way over in Florida. It's a beautiful facility, and from everything I've read it's supposed to be a great experience for fans. The grass area in the outfield is ten bucks to be near the fence and bullpen, and you can spread out a blanket and have a picnic while watching the game.

My sister lives up in Vegas, so I'll get her to meet us there. She's an Angels fan, but I think I can get her to go turncoat and root for the Dodgers.

The only travesty is that they don't have Dodger Dogs. That's just not right.

Hello!
If you do go to a Dodger spring training game, can you please post how the new field is??? I grew up going to Dodger and Angel games. I traveled to Dodgertown in Vero Beach back in the 80's for a few spring training games. Now that I live in Jupiter, FL (we have Spring Training in my town for the Cards and the Marlins), my husband and I did go up to Dodgertown last year for the last Dodger Spring training game there. (No Dodger Dogs there either!). I went to the Marlins/ Boston game here 2 days ago only to get rained out. One of the only games that sells out here.

I don't think I'm going to be able to make it after all (I got a subpoena to testify in a criminal case as an eyewitness, so I need to stick around), but if I get the chance I'll absolutely let you know how it went.

It's cool that you got to see the last spring training game at Vero Beach, though.
