I thought Mikey was going to work for "Torchwood."

That was something I didn't understand in the "Torchwood" mini-series. I was under the impression that he was going to be working with them. Does anyone know anything about why they choose not to use the character or even make a reference to him like the did Dr Jones?

I suspect Noel Clarke was a bit too busy saving the British Film Industry to take a bit part in Torchwood.

At the end of 'Journey's End' I fully expected Mickey and Martha to turn up on Torchwood. What a dissapointment.

But yeah, the actors involved apparently had other plans.

Noel Clarke has been working on about 5 movies since then, and Freema Agyeman was cast in Law & Order UK which has been renewed for a second series, so they've both been very busy.

I'd have loved Mickey to be in TW, and hated Martha joining so honestly I prefer neither to both--hard to see how they'd have fit into the mini anyway...

I'm kind of glad they didn't come back, I get so annoyed that Rose keeps popping in from another dimension that she is supposed to be trapped in. Also, The Doctor is hundreds of years old and can travel anywhere in time and space and he keeps running into the same 5 or 6 people over and over.

I would love to see Mickey again, so I was a little disappointed that he didn't show up in Children of Earth but that doesn't preclude him from appearing later on when Clarke isn't as busy.

I was very excited when it seemed like Mickey was going to be on Torchwood and pretty disappointed when he didn't appear in it. Hopefully he'll be able to do some more episodes in one of the Who shows in the future.

I'm not sure how Mickey would have fit into Children of Earth, but it is clear that Lois was designed to fulfil Martha's intended part in the series. Take away the naivety to the whole situation and you have Martha working for UNIT while really siding with Torchwood and doing the spying. As much as I love Martha and Freema, I think that Lois was the better character for this particular story. Martha would have been obvious, where as the story of Lois being an out of depth PA thrown into one of the worst situations humanity as ever faced certainly added a lot of much-needed tension to the story.

Its a shame that Freema isn't more readilly available these days, but good for her - she has a really successful and high-profile show outside of the Whoinverse because she is more popular and talented than a few hardcore Who fans would have you believe. Hopefully they will be able to slot her in again a bit further down the line even if for an episode or two.

As for Mickey, I would have been curious to see him in Torchwood especially considering that the character had so much positive development over the years, but I don't see what role he would have filled in the mini as it stands. Perhaps the idea to include him came before they decided to go the mini-series route, who knows.

With the gravitas and seriousness present throughout CoE, I just can't imagine Mickey being involved in the story -- any moreso than if Sarah Jane or the Doctor had shown up. I don't mean to slight their characters, but if they had popped up it would have taken me out of the story a bit. Almost like kidstuff being shoehorned into a grown-up event, I dunno.

I have an extremely difficult time seeing Martha in Lois' role in Torchwood: Children of Earth. (I could, however, easily see Tish Jones in Lois' role.) There's no reason why Martha would work as a temp in Frobisher's office, and with Martha's connections to UNIT it's unlikely that she would have been allowed access to Floor 13 because she could have blown open the lies the PM was trying to peddle.

Now, it's possible that Martha could have been in a different role; I could almost see Martha in Agent Johnson's role, actually.

I have no idea what role Mickey would have played, however.

For what it's worth, I think it's best that we didn't see either Martha or Mickey. They're available for future Who or Torchwood adventures, which wouldn't have been guaranteed had they been in Children of Earth.

i never got why people thought that Micky and Martha leaving with Jack led people to believe they would be at Torchwood. they just walked off together.

There was never anything said about either Martha or Mickey appering in Torchwood. It was just a throwaway. In his book The Writers Tale, RTD mentioned the possibility of having Mickey on Torchwood, but the fact is the CoE storyline wouldn't have worked with the extra bodies. It was the post-Tosh and Owen story, and the remaining trio needed to handle the story by themselves.

Also, there are real-world considerations. Right after doing Journey's End, Freema Agyeman signed to star in Law & Order UK for ITV, so she was rendered unavailable. And Noel Clarke is making big waves as a movie director right now with films such as Kidulthood, so he too is probably unavailable (though he's still available for narrating something like DW Confidential, it seems).

Now if Torchwood comes back for a 4th season (and judging by the UK ratings that's a dead certainty) I'd be surprised if we didn't see Martha and Mickey as guest stars, at least. But considering how busy the actors are, they're probably not to be counted on as continuing cast members.

Probably a dumb question, but how far into the production would series 3 TW have been when that season finale of Who was broadcast?
