Does anyone else think this movie is going to see the second (and final) death of Spock?

I can't be the only one thinking this... I mean, that's how Leonard Nimoy got talked into doing TWOK. To quote others here, it would certainly be a "meaty" role, and worthy of Nimoy's participation. And I'm sure he would approve of it, after the fate of his character was left hanging way back in "Unification".

I don't think so. I do believe this will be the last time we ever see Nimoy-as-Spock, but I think to kill the character would be too much of a downer and take the focus away from Quinto's new Spock, whomever the new Kirk turns out to be, and the future/past the new film is trying to turn into a revitalized franchise. JJ Abrams flash-habits aside, seeing the end before you've seen the events that led there makes for a sucky movie, IMHO.

I don't think we'll see Spock die. We've seen that before and it'll be hard to top that scene in TWOK.

I don't think so. The movie is focusing on the younger characters. There's not much room to stick in a death scene for older Spock when you are trying to pass on the torch to a new cast.

I really doubt they'll kill off Spock (Leonard Nimoy). The powers-that-be tried it with TWOK and the test audiences reacted to it as if they just went to a funeral. It was not a good reaction. I don't think Abrams would want to do that to the audience.

I'll echo what others have said above. Paramount's obviously going to be wanting a sequel to this. You can't kill off Old Spock and then go on with Quinto in a second movie pretending nothing has happened. Sure, chronologically it would make sense but it would be sort of against the spirit of the whole thing.

I don't think they'll kill him. It will be too much of a downer. Star Trek has a bad history of killing charechters, Spock was killed, the audiance hated it and he was resurected.
kirk was killed and the audiance hated it. and don't get me started on the more "recent" deaths...
In short, a death scene is too much of a gamble. And considering how much the movie is a gamble by it self, it should be avoided.

nah. He might, but it wouldn't be the right move. It would distract from the story that they are hopefully trying to show. I agree with the posters above, giving these timeless characters on-screen deaths has proved problematic.

I don't see it... and I don't get the whole desire to SEE a death scene. I'd have been perfectly happy with the "second star on the right and straight on til morning" scene in ST-VI being the last time we saw Kirk on-screen... the "return" of him in "Degenerations" was utterly pointless and horribly disrespectful to the character (and was clearly written by people with no respect for or understanding of the character!)

We all know that Spock isn't going to live forever... he'll die sooner or later. Doesn't mean we have to be morbid and SEE it...

Let us see him as a very aged man, many years post-TNG... so we know he's NEAR the end. There's no need to show us his final death-rattle. In other words...show some respect!

Actually you probably get Robin Curtis, since she hasnt done any serious acting in 10 years and actually looks amazingly good for her age.

I wouldn't be surprised if Spock's death is the bookending element in the movie. I wouldn't be upset - he's gotta die sometime, and in essence this is the movie that allows Spock to live again, for years and years potentially. Nice poetic irony.

Also, I want Nimoy to have the chance to play Spock's "real" death scene. He's 76, we shouldn't assume anything about his health and future ability to make more movies.

I think if Spock dies in the movie it'll overshadow everything. That'll be so hyped up in the press that it would suck the oxygen out of nearly everything.

There is NO reason to show an actual death scene. The fact that so many people seem to "get into" watching those, honestly, fairly well creeps me out.

Yeah, Spock (like everyone else) eventually will die. Heck, I liked his FIRST death so much that I would have preferred that they'd left him dead (I love the character but c'mon... that was one of the best ends for a character that has ever been written... and then they came back and said "oh, sorry, just kidding"... which I found emotionally unsatisfying).

But to my point... yeah, we know he'll die eventually... but what's the fascination with SEEING it?
