I think I'm done.

If you don't like your life, move. Make a break. Change it. If you feel like you don't have enough options, then move to a big city where there are more varied opportunities and people, whatever, just pick up and find a new perspective.

Also, get a pet. Wonderful for stress relief and distraction from the tedium.
Big cities are anonymous and lonely for a not very enterprizing person.
Take up a charity or something. You'd be amazed to find how happy you'd feel when you see some people are much more unhappy because much more unfortunate, and how good it feels to help people.

This is also good advice. It's the holidays, find a soup kitchen or a shelter and kick in some good will. :bolian:
I didn't mean to sound like it makes you happy to see unhappy people, though. :alienblush:

I don't know. I'm not a very enterprising person and I find that living in a big ciy means that I'm almost forced to do things, seeing as they're right there in front of me, often in my way.

No, but helping them be happier does.

What's the math already? Multiply (half?) the duration of the relationship by 10 and that's the duration of the mourning period. I believe we're way past that.

Dude, you're making it too complicated - multiplying by half and then 10?

Just multiply by five.

It's been a bad year all round on personal levels for a lot of people I know, they can't wait to be shot of it.

I was just trying to remember a movie dialogue. It sounded like that, IIRC.

Freudian slip??

I think I'm done with my life.

Really, I don't know what I have to live for right now. I'm in a nowhere job, I've no opportunities either professionaly or romanticly I've not got anything of what it takes to change any of that.

I'm just... here.

Destined to just be. And nothing more. And as much as I want it to change, and as much as I...

Nevermind.

Fuck it.

Me too, man. I feel the same way. Let's just hang out and talk about Star Trek and hope things will improve. Sometimes stuff happens that surprises you and changes the game, or you end up redefining a good day until you have one a little more often. I am slightly disappointed when I wake up every morning, as I'd love to just never come back, but I am hanging in there, so you can too.

That's how I've always seen life. I'm just here. And one day, I won't be, and very little will change because of that. There's no special purpose or reason for it. I have my meager goals and hopes such as they are, and I get through every day hoping there will be more of what I like and less of what I hate. But then, I don't see this as a bad thing. I hope you find what will make you feel better about yours.

Hey, my Dad died last month.

On Thanksgiving. (Canada)

So fuck you.

Your life seem better now?

Ah, I feel this way all the time. Hang in there Trekker You're hardly alone my friend.

Life has a meaning, and it has purpose. There are different ways of looking at it--through the lens of religion, philosophy, or science--take your pick. If you feel you have no purpose, you can always create one for yourself.

But I don't need one, and looking at like through those lenses, as you put it, always strikes me as silly. I merely exist, and use that existence to do things I feel are right, good or necessary until the day that existence ends. I think what I've chosen to do with my existence is rewarding, but that doesn't lend it any special meaning or purpose.

Another "woe is me" Trekker thread.

I sympathize with you dude, I honestly do. I've had many times in my life when I thought there was no way I was going to recover from this mistake or that. However, as others have said to you time and again, the bottom line is that spending your days on this BBS whining about not having a good job and a good woman isn't going to get you those things.

A question Trekker: if you could do one thing to earn money (a career) for the rest of your life, what would it be? It doesn't have to be a fireman or a doctor or little kid stuff, it doesn't have to be practical or even realistic, I'm just curious. What is your occupation right now? I forget. I'm curious because maybe we could give you more constructive suggestions than "change things" if we even had an inkling of what your dream position in life is besides "better job + fuck-buddy". :)

Then you do have a purpose, Goji. You say you don't need one, but you also feel you have to "do things [you] feel are right," no matter what form that may take. That in and of itself is purpose, for it is not only what we decide to do in life that lends meaning and purpose to our existence, but also how we live our lives, depending on our "life perspectives." You may not realize it now, but in time you will come to understand.

Okay, then I have a meaning and purpose in life as much as my pet cat does. I don't agree with this perspective, I think neither of us have "purposes" exactly, but there it is.
