I started watching LOST in Season 3...

I started watching LOST in season 3. I sorta followed what was going on in seasons 1 & 2 through previews and clips but didn't really have the motivation to start watching the show until the beginning of season 3. I read most of the episode synopses to get some idea on what I missed. What was the biggest thing I missed watching?

When they revealed that Lostzilla is just Barney the Dinosaur with a bad case of rabies.

Seriously, why are you shortchanging/spoiling yourself this way??? Just go back and watch S1-2 on DVD. Because to honestly answer your question would involve us spoiling you on great killer twists like...

Locke being in a wheelchair before the crash; Ethan Rom not being on the plane, kidnapping Claire, almost murdering Charlie, and being shot dead by Charlie; the S2 premiere episode that started off like an entirely different show while the viewer finally realizes that it's Desmond in the hatch. And that's just for starters!

If DVDs are too pricey, there's always Netflix.

There are some wonderful bit of character development that you really need in order to fully understand these people on the island.

There were some really wonderful and moving episodes, especially in Season 1.

Thanks for the heads-up Temis. I knew most of those from before now. I didn't find out about most of the Shannon / Boone / Sawyer backstory until recently which surprised me b/c Shannon and Boone aren't mentioned that much anymore.

Wow. Starting in Season 3 in Lost is akin to starting Lord of the Rings with The Two Towers or Stephen King's Dark Tower series with Book 4.

I seriously don't see how you'll be able to enjoy Seasons 3-4 at the same level you would have if you had experienced the whole story as intended.

Plus you missed the opening sequence of the pilot (not to mention the rest of the pilot,) which is possibly the greatest first 10 minutes of any show. Very exciting stuff.

As stated above you missed all of Artz (thats a classic line by the way).

There's tons of stuff you will miss by not watching the first 2 seasons. Honestly i dont think i would understand what the hell is going on had i not see them on dvds.

I started watching with season 2 (did the same thing, looked at episode synopses to learn the background). As soon as I could, I watched Season 1 and I'm glad I did. Even if some things won't be a surprise, do yourself a favor and watch them.

All of season 2 thrilled me with the oddity of pushing the button every 108 minutes, and then the season 2 finale...where they don't. That was fun watching that all season.

Season Two also has one of my favorite Jack and Locke interactions:

"Why do you find it so hard to believe?"

"Why do you find it so easy?"

"It's never been easy!"

My friend just started watching Lost this season and he's constantly like, WTF? Why is this smoke monster a big deal? Why do they not want to leave the island? Why is Locke so bad ass? Why is Jack such a **ssy whipped pansy?

Then I'll tell him something from past episodes and it damn near blows his mind, yet he still refuses to go back and watch them even though I've offered him my DVDs. Some people are stubborn. Not sure why considering the past seasons have been so awesome. (Barring season 3 of course.)

Make up BS answers for him. :D
