Re: I.S.S. Titan & I.S.S. Ares

Shit. The Phoenix is loose again!

This is what happens when you use the M'Kraan Crystal to power the warp core!

Re: I.S.S. Titan & I.S.S. Ares

These are all great illustrations, but for a logo, I think you need to think simpler. I like the phoenix, but personally I'd smooth it out a bit. The other thing is that most of these have way too many overlapping elements. The first one alone has five parts - Starfleet delta, phoenix, moon, ship, & arrow/ribbon. My favorite of the bunch would actually be only part of the second one - keep the phoenix behind the moon, and remove the ship & ribbon. One last thing is the NCC number is not quite centered underneath the name.

I don't mean to ruffle your feathers or anything. I really do like the illustrations, I just thought you'd want some constructive criticism.

Re: I.S.S. Titan & I.S.S. Ares

B.J,
Constructive Crits are fine. As I stated this is the first pass. It is up to the client to let me know which one to go with and to simplify if needed. It is all part of the creative process for me.

I don't remember if I ever posted these Orthos of the
Titan that Ellery sent me a long time ago when he was
creating the model for the book cover. So I figured I would post them now.

These are the same images that I sent to Gene Rizzardi when he was making
the 6ft model of the Titan. Also these were used
as a base for the Starcraft resin kit that is out as well.

Such a pretty ship :adore:

I hate being broke and unemployed or id buy a model kit of this ship. :(

Re: I.S.S. Titan & I.S.S. Ares

Yes, this has always been a fantastic and worthy addition to the pantheon of Trek ships.

Out of curiosity, Sean, even though it's been -- mentioned -- on screen (in Nemesis), it's never been actually -- seen -- on screen, and hence, not completely "official" by most people's criteria. Has Paramount sanctioned this as an official design for the vessel, considering its existence on book covers and being generally accepted by the fandom? Or do they still reserve the right to replace it with something by someone on their own payroll? Can't remember if this was ever discussed in the early days of your design or after you won the contest.

Well John Van Citters the President of CBS Consumer Products did commission a 6ft model to be used in the Tour (He also praised the design), and Cryptic did include it into the Star Trek Online Universe, so I guess won could say that it has be accepted as almost-Cannon. But I guess until they decide to put her on screen we will never really know.

I am just glad that people have grown to love her. Either Cannon or not I am glad I got to be part of Trek in one way or another. I just hope that one day that I may be able to
work on something Official for them.

Re: I.S.S. Titan & I.S.S. Ares

This is still one of the best Starfleet designs in fandom, and was (IMO) rightly chosen as the winner in the competition. :)
Looking back at it all, how does it feel now? The entire concept of one of your designs being a near-official Star Trek ship?

Surreal actually. Going from not being liked when first chosen to being accepted. Granted it hasn't got me any jobs with design studios or film studios. But I have got a lot of freelance commissions from fans and got to meet a few Writers, Authors, Actors in the fields via email. That has been nice. It sounds weird, but I even like the fact that Wil Wheaton actually sent me a congrats email.

Who knows maybe one day I will be asked to do something more in the field and universe of Trek. I would love mean love to work on a Official Show or Movie or Game as a contributing concept artist.

One can dream right.

Re: I.S.S. Titan & I.S.S. Ares

Wishing you the best. I remember wanting to get into ILM back in the 90's, and I actually had a connection to possibly make that happen. Other life events got in the way and I never went, but sometimes the dream can happen if you got the chops for it - and you clearly do.

It is all who you know, and getting them to step up. So far no luck, but I am never going to give up on Film or the Comic Industry. I will just have to find the right Director or Editor at the right time.

Re: I.S.S. Titan & I.S.S. Ares

I suppose it's inevitable that some people will hate. Some because they have an actual opinion, others just because hating over the internet makes you a hero. ;)

I can understand that winning must have been a bit bittersweet, with people acting like they did. Even so, the fact that you won means something IMO, and you should be proud of what you accomplished.

Here is my latest commission for Glenn Judd. THis time he wanted his character
in a Imperial Dress Uniform.

He has already sent me my next commission. It will be a Admiral Peter Stone. A promoted
version of my captain Stone I did for the Ares.

^Me too!:( For now I have to use what money I have for more practical things, otherwise I'd buy a model kit of the Titan like a shot!

Waddling in self-pity aside, I wonder what things we'll see next?

USS Excelsior or Enterprise B from Diamond select toys would be nice :)

Here is Glenn Judd's newest commission request a Admiral Stone based off
of my Captain Stone of the I.S.S. Ares that I did back in 2006 along with an
updated bio to go with him

Admiral Peter S. Stone
Commanding Officer
I.S.S. Ares NCC-80920
Olympus Fleet

He was a Low level Lieutenant and his career was going no
where. He was part of Picards' Personal Guard on the Ent-D.
When Riker wanted to leave Picard when he was assimilated
Stone took Picards guards and beamed over to the Cube and
brought him back. After that show of loyalty, Picard
promoted him to chief of his Personal Guard.
Which did not sit well with Riker and his followers.

As Picard was promoted Stone moved up in the ranks.
When Picard made Fleet Admiral he promoted Stone
and his followers to postings on the Ares.

Since that was Picards' Flag ship Stone was given the
center seat for his career long loyalty to Picard

But as with everything in the Empire watch your back.
After five successful years as Captain of the Ares under
Picard's rule, Captain Stone started to plan for his next promotion.
WIth the help of his loyal chief body guard / wife Amanda Rasmussen
they figure out a way to get Picard out of the way and get Stone into the
Admiralty himself.

With a few well place bribes to a few mercenary, and the successful overriding
of a few Soong Class Androids assigned to protect Vice Admiral Nakamura at sector
headquarters in the Sol System.
Stone set a plan in action that would if successful see Admiral Picard promoted to VIce Admiral
after Nakamura was mysteriously was assassinated. Stone would then call in a few favors
he had with contacts in Section 31.
Section 31 would next pull some strings that would get Picard the posting that was now vacated
by Nakamuras death.

With Picard saw to it that Stone was promoted to Admiral and given command of the Olympic Fleet
and the territory that it supervised. Stone decided that he would keep the I.S.S. Ares to fly his flag.
He then promoted Commander Rasmussen to Captain.
